It was the worst place I have ever been we left after 10 minutes of arrival there was drunk people shouting outside

I will tell everyone not to bother the room stunk of cigarette smoke, the receptionist wasn't helpful at all just looked at me and said I can't find your reservation, id paid over £140 for that we left as soon as we arrived avoid it like the plague!!!! And I will be getting a refund take a look at my Google reviews there's a few followers on there.

Dear twoodward876 I am sorry you had to write this review. My staff are usually complimented on their level of service to guests, this is most unusual. We have a strict non smoking policy in the hotel, all windows in rooms are opened during and after servicing. I will contact you via email.

Overpriced and not near anything

Miles away from anything Pillows were flat as a pancake No aircon or fans in the room as sun comes straight through window Breakfast was a joke waited an hour to get served and to charge 13.99 for that was a rip off

Dear smudger120 I am sorry you did not like the location of the hotel. The location is clear in all of our advertising, most people favour the location due to its accessibility to major motorways. We would have replaced or offered more pillows, if we were made aware of your displeasure. Unfortunately, our hotel does not offer air conditioning and neither to we advertise the fact. Fans are available, if requested, from reception. Service is taking longer than normal, this is due to staff shortages and new staff being trained.

Always a pleasure to stay here, great value and friendly staff. For hotel accommodation in this bracket one really can't fault what they provide. It hasn't been easy for hoteliers during this time but at the Mercure Hatfield they have found a way to offer hospitality that meets this business travellers needs.

All inclusive stay - Bar/ Restaurant/ reception staff were brilliant. They couldn't do enough to make our stay a pleasant one. Due to the Covid situation the buffet dinner is replaced by a bar menu - The food choices were limited and had high supplement charges where a bit steep. But all in all a pleasant stay and a day out trip to St Albans.

I think because of the Corona Virus some hotels lost their wish to satisfy their clients. I asked for some Ice. Answer from reception: Only in the bar, and the ice will come with the drink order. Really? I had to go out of hotel and walk a lot just to get some ice. It was justified by the new rules of safety of corona virus. In which sense giving me the ice can spread the virus? Very bad experience. Not planning to return so soon to this hotel.

Just a short stay but found location of hotel to be good and also a great location for future wedding. Room was clean and plenty of space. All electrical equipment worked well. Bathroom was really nice. Would recommend the hotel to others.

Visiting family in the area and have stayed here before. Excellent location, friendly staff and good accommodation. Breakfast had good choices but ordered poached eggs which took some time to arrive. Maybe should have ordered when we checked in for breakfast. Had dinner one night and were pleased with our meal. Well cooked and nicely presented. Will stay again on our next family visit.

Terrible breakfast

The breakfast in this hotel was terrible, in that parts of the hot food selection kept running out and were not speedily replaced so that you could not get all of your breakfast and the items you had selected got cold while you were waiting for the rest-a very unpleasant experience and guests should be refunded.

Please accept our sincerest apologises for issues you encountered with breakfast , there really can be no excuses , we are truly sorry.

Hatfield Oak Hotel was very welcoming and the evening meal was one of the best I have had in a long time.The bedrooms where spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious. I would recommend anyone to visit this Hotel.

Good enough for the price

Easy check in, plenty of parking and the wine and cheese board I had delivered to the room was good quality/quantity. I felt the £5 tray service charge on room service was a bit excessive. The bath didn't drain quickly which is always a sign that the drain is blocked and therefore needs better cleaning. The breakfast buffet wasn't the hottest but still acceptable. The second morning I ordered a ham and cheese omelette off the menu for breakfast and got the strangest plate back. It was literally a slice of ham with a slice of cheese on top and then a plain omelette placed on top - very strange! All that said, I had a good nights sleep which was the most important thing to me and therefore I would stay at this hotel again if ever I'm in the area.

Have stayed at this hotel previously and had been quiet satisfied, but not this time, magnitude to resturant, Saturday breakfast, buffet style, only two staff available, coffee and tea jugs both empty as was coffee again when refil required, no plates at buffet another wait also for fried eggs.I ordered, killers which when they finally arrived they looked like they had been rung out, toast requested when arrived only two slices of one slice each and no spreads on table. Made comments to reception, will advise management !! Sadley no change in Sunday or Monday. On returning to hotel Saturday afternoon we found a notification in our room advising if eating in hotel in evening to book early as due to function food would not be available between 6.45 and 9pm, we tried to order a royal sandwich at 6.05 pm and were advised this was not possible. All advised to reception on checkout, usual apolagies, will advise management. Service, no, doubt we will patronize again

The good:Location suited me for work purposesReception welcome was quick and friendlyOn site bar and restaurantComfortable bedHot powerful showerThe bad:Old fashioned in-room heating, room was freezing when I went in, drafty windows. Turned heater on, which was then stuffy.Breakfast buffet, £10, awful. Not good value for money. Very sad looking buffet food without a good flavour. Waitresses stood as far away from guests as possible chatting and not actually serving. Everyone had to walk up to them to ask for something.

Adequate, reasonable three star establishment.We had a room on the ground floor with a staff pathway past the window, which meant we had to keep the curtains closed. Not perfect.Plenty of parking space for the car.

Ticked all the right boxes: staff were friendly, willing to help out, and efficient; everything clean; easy parking; better than average breakfast (and at £10 good value). Only minus was the fact that bathroom lighting was automatic on entry so could not be left on all night - and came on when you visted in the night.

Situated close by the university of Hertfordshire and just off A1M, I thought it would be noisy but inside the lounge bar and rooms were surprisingly quiet. In fact there was no traffic affecting in our ground floor room at all. Pleasantly laid out and decorated in standard Mercure purple we had a pleasant couple of days here to include a bar evening meal and excellent breakfasts - fresh and hot buffet breakfast plus the usual fruit and cereals and juices. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful - even offering to help with bags! For visits to friends and relatives or touring around the area this is an ideal and convenient comfortable hotel.

Typical short stay hotel

I was at a conference in Hatfield and the Mercure was on the list of recommended hotels close by. The hotel was typical on a short stay business focussed hotel - 3 star. The rooms were spacious and clean, the bed and pillows not particularly comfortable. The bathroom had a shower over the bath so required agility to access it. The shower jel/soap holder attached to the tiles was completely rusty. The tiles behind the shower had orange soap residue on the grout as well as hard water stains so obviously hadnt been cleaned particularly well. Breakfast was included in our room rate but I believe was an extra £10 ifyou paid on the day. It was a hot buffet quite a good selection and tasty. There were pastries cereals and fruit so plenty of choice. Its unlikely I will be in the area again so cant really comment as to whether I would pay a repeat visit.

Needed to stay overnight for an early morning meeting in Hatfield. Rooms were clean, hotel was accommodating and the evening meal was very nice. Well worth the £51 paid. The only challenge was the long walk from the bar to the bedroom!

Breakfast room was very busy, small, and the food selection not great and not kept fully available, had to wait for eggs one morning. Reception staff inflexible - I paid the maximum for late checkout (£30) the day before I checked-out, but actually checked out 2 hours before the full time. I asked for a refund of the extra 2 hours I had paid for, which was denied saying the payment had gone through the system and it wasn't possible. This is poor customer service. Only one face towel and one bath towel in the room - I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that had less than 2 of each, even more budget hotels. Room was clean and comfortable though.

Not the best check in since they couldn't find my reservation but eventually got there when the realised they got my name wrong. Anyway room was Fine, bed comfortable enough, dinner was tasty even though they substituted a few of the items from the menu. Overall ok.

Good value. Nice place to stay, especially the newer rooms. Good breakfast. We had a problem because there was no record of our planned noon arrival and the trainee receptionist did not know what to do. She did, eventually, find that our room (fortunately) was ready. We did not pay the early check in surcharge.
