Stayed here for a couple of nights on a business trip (not for the first time). The Good: Easy parking and well located for the motorway. The staff I met were all helpful and friendly (not the chefs!). Wifi was good in my room. The Bad: Short restaurant hours and when I arrived at the bar at exactly 2046 in the evening I was told the kitchen had closed exactly a minute earlier. I asked if there was anything the chef could make / heat that was quick but the response was 'Kitchen is closed'. This lack of flexibility does not encourage me to return despite being a loyal ALL Accor Diamond member. The Ugly: The Novotel Stevenage is renowned as having the worst mattresses of all the local hotels (which is why most of us use the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Premier Inn in Stevenage) BUT my mattress was like a bag of bones. No mattress protector, padding or the like, just a surface like the Alps that for most people would be unacceptable (yup - it WAS unacceptable and I told them so on both days). The telephone in my room did not work (room 305) and the shower flooded out of the cubicle onto the floor after about 2 minutes of running the water - minor issues compared to the mattress. Summary: a poor hotel that could do with a lick of paint / new carpets (and the sole lift needs a good scrub / deep clean). I cannot comment on the food as alas I was forced to use Just Eat for my evening meal - but the breakfast was bland and just satisfactory. Location is great if you want to just drive off the motorway but if you do not have a car or want to visit anywhere in the town it is not so good. Compared to most Novotel hotels in the UK this is a very tatty and well below average example and when compared to the other chain hotels in the town it ranks poorly. Sorry guys but this is a shabby / poor hotel and I am sure the hotel management staff know it!

This hotel can only be described as a little worn. No lunch or bar service until 4pm Room ok but I personally failed to get into the shower, needed a ladder as the side was so high. Breakfast just ok but staff failed to keep up with demand. Had to wait for things to be topped up all the time. Very convenient location

i have been at the Knebworth Novatel for over 3 months as an NHS essential worker - the staff have, despite difficult conditions and restrictions maintained a very high level of service and nothing is too much trouble. Very professional and my "sabbatical" has been comfortable and issue free - you would not know there were issues outside the hotel apart from the availability of services such as bar and restaurant - the breakfast is well presented and plentiful with a reasonable selection of cold offerings. one of the best appointed and managed hotels in the area - and I have stayed in a number over the passed 6 months. I would now always chose this hotel and will do going forward for my work requirements.

Thus is a nice hotel with a great reception. The rooms are a bit tired. Paint on walls scuffed and stained, floors in rooms dirty, bathroom had limescale stains. Good WiFi, comfy bed, but duvet cover torn. Chair and sofa in room tatty. Good ammeneties, tea coffee soap etc. Rooms need TLC by staff asap .

When we visit my sister in Stevenage we stay at the Novotel for convenience. We have a dog and we are always made to feel welcome. Room is clean and comfortable and breakfast is good. Would thoroughly recommend.

Bad bar service

Considering this is a major chain of hotels, I thought the service at the bar was a palling. We hired a room for a party there was one sometimes two staff they were so early and they did not know their trade. When we went to the main bar the service was no better there. It ruined what was otherwise a really good time in the hotel

despite renovated room and convenient location close to motorway, there is a big problem with cleanliness management in hotel common area (doors dirty, old carpet dirty, lift wall and floor soiled...). Also too cold room and breakfast room. Why windows are still open when temperature is 16°C outside!!

If you’re looking for a functional business hotel then this may suit you! However as a hotel it’s pretty soulless and unwelcoming. Self service Breakfast couldn’t be faulted but the evening meal was laughable. 3 waitresses with only a dozen at most clients should have been an easy task but the food and drinks took ages, it wasn’t how we asked and was so bland it was embarrassing. I think the chef must have been having the night off!

Although we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel, one night only, the staff we did speak to were great, the breakfast was 1st class, the room was lovely and the whole place appeared relaxed and comfortable. I would go back again.

The first impression unfortunately was with the receptionist on duty (named Carol) on my arrival was just too cold in her rapport with a new customer like me, she was very poor in her interpersonal relationship and acting as if she was being forced to work and no information was provided about the hotel facilities (eg restaurant etc) on arrival. Also, at my check out, same receptionist was also very indifferent to even ask how was my stay or to say simple safe journey. Moreover, they were understaffed and a bit clumsy in their organisation. The room was fairly clean but the bedside phone was DEAD! Overall, the quality of the hotel is overpriced and they need to be more proactive in their service delivery!

Having stayed at this hotel a good many times over the last 3 months I was upgraded to Silver Status, which entitled me to a complimentary drink at the bar. I handed over my ticket and received my drink. Imagine how I felt the following day after I had left he hotel and paid my bill to see that I had been charged for my 'free' drink. I will certainly be seeking a refund of some sort to rectify this situation.

Xcellent staff, top marks, good food Clean, xcellent rooms, As usual draught beer in the bar is awful, my. NORMAL MOAN. over priced and if your not a lager drinker. Tough, pkenty whisky otherwise recommed the hotel

Good hotel for location on A1 and Stevenage with free parking, but is showing its age now. Got stuck in the lift as made way from first floor to check out, lift has definitely seen better days! Breakfast good if included in price, otherwise use the fridge provided in the room.

Contacted hotel by email- NO RELY! Loose toilet seat Bathroom mirror light only half working 2nd stay in 3 weeks, bookkeeper again for this coming week, let’s hope if a better stay I think if would be good idea for the hotel manager to do some spot checks BEFORE the toons are released to guests

good place to stay over. good breakfast and dinner but could do with some trained bar staff. (O K if want a pint or a glass of wine but don't ask for a kir or a martini), had a first floor room this time and the fan in the heating was noisy

Parking issue

Novotel ha apparently an issue with their parking lot. The strange thing is that they have "wall"papered almost the complete hotel with warnings and threats in relation to the parking. On almost every wall and every table they tell you that you MUST register (it is a do it yourself thing on a tablet) and if you do not register, you will get a fine of 100,-- Pst. The better option could be that the registration is done by the check-in, just by asking your car registration ... rather than telling you to do it yourself. It is an unusual kind of hotel hospitality, I think! (That you must do it yourself or ... get fined!) We were there with a whole group and everybody complaint that, although switched off, the airco units in every room switches on shortly every hour. Disrupting you sleep every hour of every night stay.

Whilst I appreciate your concerns about the warnings, these are not just for guests who stay in the bedrooms. We have a huge amount of guests who use our facilities for business who do not check in and just buy a coffee or dine in out restaurant and bar. These information tent cards are for them. The reason we ask the customer to enter their own registration car number is so that they are entered correctly and cannot be misread by the staff here. The air conditioning units I have looked into and have had them all serviced, so that this will not be happening in the future Once again thank you and look forward to serving you again in the near future. hotel is average, we stay here often. most staff are very nice. this visit was awful and has put us off using hotel. when checked in got told theres a soul night on, all evening the noise so so loud you could it over the tv. at 3am in the morning there was cars beeping there horns, people shouting and running down the corridoors. worse night sleep ever
