Sofitel is Sofitel. I always say this when staying at one of these hotels. From your arrival to the most beautiful entrance, welcome drinks and smiles from the staff, there is no better service than this. The staff member Emma went far beyond to help us and cater for our needs as well as with information. Food. We are platinum members, so we can use their club Mil……. The food options there are really limited for afternoon tea and dinner, but it’s honestly more for snacks than anything else. The food was always good, and in the lounge staff, Elaine, Cindy and Delia were soooo nice, and I mean super nice and provided top-notch service. Now I want to mention Zora!! Wow, wow, wow is just a part of how I can talk about her. Her excellence in service, smile and the cocktail-making skills is faaaaaarrrr above anyone else we encountered. She was in all aspects, the most engaging, friendly and fantastic staff member. Even when she was busy, she would come to greet us and ask what we needed. Really I can’t express more how amazing this jewel of a person is!!!! Breakfast was great with many options and really delicious food. We also did the dinner buffet, and the food was great with excellent service and thanks to Mike for your service. So much delicious food, honestly. Pools. There are a total of 6 pools spread out throughout the resort. Maybe more hidden ones. We spent most of our time at the beach pool which was so nice, and mid-day, there were always chairs, so great time to relax and towels at the pools as well as water which is a nice touch. Rooms! The room beds were so comfy!!! The rooms were spacious, and the sea view we had was stunning. We also stayed in a suite room for a few days, and that was even better and more amazing!!! Cleaned well and very comfortable. Beach. The beach you can’t swim in but is so pretty to walk around on and the sand is just so soft! Honestly, I just want to return to this resort again if I visit Sanya.

This was my 1st time using this hotel brand! Joly is the GOAT ( greatest of all time) at the Sofitel and her team, at the concierge service, is learning from the best. My colleague also stayed at this hotel in July and got the same excellence in service from Joly. She was very responsive to my requests and she helped me navigate the health code requirements. The fish at the Thai restaurant was the highlight of the Sofitel meals followed by the pastries that were served during breakfast. Cindy at the club lounge got a second chance. 1st impressions on hotel guests are lasting, however we all deserve a second chance and some DEIJ training. The 1st time I arrived for breakfast at the club lounge, Cindy tried to redirect me downstairs. I kindly informed her that I could have breakfast downstairs OR I could have breakfast at the club lounge, maybe she should check my reservation status before trying to send me away. When I asked about fresh juice , she noted they were out and would probably get some next week. Well everyone deserves a second chance so I went back the next day and the guest services greatly improved! They even had fresh watermelon juice. The hotel grounds were beautiful. They have a small seating area by the beach that is perfect for listening to the ocean and watching the waves. You can not swim in the water at this bay. However, you can see the ocean from the beach pool. All of the pools at the Sofitel were amazing! Lara at So Spa was lovely and her team was so adorable. They were Kind ladies ready to provide you with a relaxing day at the spa. I’m glad I stayed at the Sofitel for 8 days because their guest services improved over time.

It was again great to be back to our favorite Hotel in Sanya. From the minute of arrival we could enjoy the great service and hospitality. Especially I would like to mention the Club Millesime around Cindy, Zora and all the other staff there. They took so much care of us and our needs! And Laifong helped us organize whatever we needed. Beside the great staff, the hotel area, swimming pools and views are fantastic. And we really like the Thai restaurant! I recommend to just go there, you will not regret it.

Still Great, But Some Limitations

This is our third or fourth stay at the Leeman. While the quality of service, cleanliness and overall Sofitel standard is there, we found that some things were not quite to the level of our previous visits. This is likely due to a combination of low occupancy and Covid restrictions. Marc and his team are clearly doing their best and much of the Sofitel standard remains. Clean rooms, nice breakfast, beautiful grounds, lovely pools, etc. We found the move of the lounge to a meeting room on the other side of the lobby (although probably temporary) to be less comfortable. The air conditioning in our suite was great on one half and not as good in our bedroom half. We contacted the front desk and they tried to fix it but it just wasn’t quite cold enough through your stay. The Thai restaurant wasn’t open for most of our stay although it did open in a limited capacity at the end. It is still tasty! Also the pool bar wasn’t open during our stay but seemed like it might be opening soon. We were able to order drinks and ice through QR codes at the pool but it just took a little longer than if the pool bar was available. In short, we still love this property and it still the best place to stay in Haitang. Like with most organizations in China right now there’s a slight degradation of quality. I’m sure once occupancy returns and Covid restrictions abate the Sofitel will be right back up to number one.
