A central London hotel that won't burst the bank. Rooms are small and functional, but clean (although I didn't like thevtiny awkward shower space) - bar is ok, and I skipped breakfast as I was om business and needed to get going. But the area around the hotel is busy and energetic. Plenty of choices for dining. Staff were nice, like I say pretty functional place but in a great location. Would stay again.

Tiny tiny room with small bed. No refrigerator in the room so nowhere to store medication that requires refrigeration ( leaving it between the blind and window was a poor alternative). Blinds do not block out light so if near the pub or external fire escape be prepared to have security lights illuminating the room. .Noisy pub outside the window so if you don’t want the entertainment ask for a room on the other side of the building. Only positive it was clean and close to Euston, Kings Cross and St Pancras stations. With current construction though the roads around the Mercure are a nightmare and cabs are reticent to service Euston station. Only one bath towel between two of us. No response to phone call to try and source a second one. Would not recommend this accommodation, lots of room for improvement.

Tiny Bed

Surely the most important job for a hotel is to provide a good night's sleep (I believe other mass market chains have identified this). We mistakenly booked their 'small room' with double bed. Small room, Central London is fair enough, but I guess we should have read the small print and noted that the bed width is only 120cm!! We are not big people, not too tall and not overweight, but squashing into what is effectively a single bed was extremely uncomfortable and was not restful and restorative. It was clearly designed to be a single room as the right hand side of the bed had neither reading light or table/shelf for water etc. Also, the window leaked cold air, rain and sound. We will defintely NOT be reurning to this hotel and will be very careful in future about booking others in this chain. On the positive side it had a great view

Convenient location, ok hotel but quite expensive

I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel as a single traveller. I chose it for its location that worked well for my program and this did not disappoint. My room was quite big, it was relatively new and comfortable despite some comments I saw on here from other travellers. As a Platinum member of the ALL program I was hoping for some amenities to be provided such as a coffee machine in the room etc. This was actually promised to me at check in by Tanya but must have skipped her mind. I reminded another staff member later on who apologised and told me it would be sorted but that never happened so I just dropped it. The breakfast buffet was quite nice and so was the bar. Overall the staff was pleasant. I did find that this hotel was actually quite expensive compared to others in the same area and I would not have stayed there if I had not been an ALL member. Overall I would say it was ok but not a great value for money considering the high price of the stay.

Great Reception Staff. Horrendous Stains on Bedding

I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful receptionist who went out of her way to get me extra tea bags and milk. The reception staff also left a beautiful home made cookie. Nice touch. She's an absolute credit to the hotel. Not their fault that the room looked nothing like the photos, was tiny for £149 and no breakfast, and not very comfortable for working. Not their fault that management ask them to take a card swipe when the room is prepaid on a government contract. Not happening. At this point we're at 5 stars for reception staff, around 2 for the room. I'd probably have done a 3 overall. Then came time for bed. Not only were there no pillow protectors but the pillow I had been destined to use was horrendously stained. Absolutely disgusting and unforgivable. Hence dropping to 1 star. Definitely will not be staying here again. Probably cross off all Mercure hotels the whole group. It's a shame because those great reception ladies are also being let down by management and housekeeping. I didn't have time to have a face to face complaint to the management unfortunately.
