Had an absolute wonderful stay. An amazingly convenient location for both Paddington Station (next to it) and for accessibility to all areas of London. The hotel is well equipped, clean, neat and tidy, loved the complimentary beverages and snacks in the lobby area. The staff were wonderful very welcoming friendly and efficient. I would not hesitate to stay again.
Great location, GOOD (rather than 'very good') hotel!

I last stayed here pre pandemic and I think this was my 5th time. I choose it because of the access to the new Elizabeth line, Bakerloo, Circle, District and Hammersmith lines on the Underground, Greater Western Railway (which I take to Chippenham each year) and 15mins direct from LHR on the Heathrow Express. There are Santander bike hubs nearby, the no. 7 bus out front does a useful route to Portobello Rd/Oxford Street. It's an easy walk to Little Venice canals, Hyde Park and Kensington Park. I know from experience that if you aren't in a King Executive ($$) the rooms are very small. I love the pod coffee machine as it saves me from dressing and going out while I work online in the mornings. The rooms were clean. The air con (which was needed during the hot/humid spell) was noisy and ineffective. Opening the window/s = noise, particularly because there's some serious construction going on next door. There's a choice of pillow types. It's an English thing to have a doona/quilt/duvet on the bed but no top sheet, so when it's warm and stuffy, I ask for one so that I can have a light cover. They look at me oddly but they provide it! The wifi is not strong or fast which is a drawback if you are working. After you log on the first time, it regularly forgets you so even though my laptop was left in the room, I had to re-log in regularly. I had to do this on my iPhone every time I re-entered the room. Boring ... surely this could be fixed. I had a few glitches with my booking but this wasn't the hotel's fault. Sabrine at the front desk was excellent and sorted things out for me. The other staff were OK. They offer bag storage and this is very helfpul. For the first time I had one night that included a breakfast set menu. I chose the healthiest option and a proper coffee, which they thankfully didn't charge me extra for (because I was saying 'no' to most of the other inclusions). If I was going to London for leisure, with my husband, as opposed to solo for business, I wouldn't choose to stay here.
Different than what's advertised

The hotel and the rooms are totally different from the advertised in the pictures. Rooms are so dull and brown with very old furniture. The toilet was not that clean in some areas. I moved to mercure hyde Park which is much better. I want to thank Ms. Bournemouth for her assistance.

We spent one night at the Mercure London Paddington after arriving in London off a flight from Australia. We had booked a Small double room with a double bed. The word small at the beginning didn't really convey quite how small the room would be. The bed was up against the wall and felt smaller than most Double beds I have previously stayed in. The staff were very friendly overall, and the small bar at the lobby was quite nice for a drink. They were also happy to hold our bags for the day whilst we went around town for the day. Location was also great next to Paddington station and Hyde Park.
Good bad and the rest

Before commenting on our stay we would like to say that the staff were exceptionally helpful and went out of their way to put right all the mishaps, particularly the front desk receptionists and housekeeping staff Rooms When I arrived (my partner was travelling later) I was given the fobkey for a room on the fourth floor. I was shocked to find it was miniscule and the air conditioning was as loud as a pneumatic drill. No way could you use it. The view was scaffolding parallel with the window in full view of workmen working on the property next door (again with drills). Also there was no fridge When I returned to reception they gave me fobs to two other rooms to view. The second room on 4th floor had a fridge and less noisy aircon. The third was on the fifth floor, with the eaves also tiny but it was very quiet (bearable aircon) and also a fridge so we opted for that. However, everyday our fobs failed to work so we had to go down to reception and get them revalidated. This happened sometimes twice a day. Even housekeeping's fobs did not work. Finally on the last day I was advised that I should have been informed to validate the fobs daily as 'they don’t work after 11 am'!!! The lift had a mind of its own and sometimes wouldn't budge and was so small it was ridiculous for a hotel of this size..... There was free tea coffee and biscuits in reception which was a nice touch..... if the coffee machine had actually worked. It had two days with no milk so was a waste of time. However there was an ice maker and free water and soft drinks. Breakfast was a bit odd because we had a voucher for an adjoining restaurant but it was hit and miss as to what you would receive - the restaurant staff seemed confused by this arrangement but again they were helpful. Hotel Indigo is apparently an associate hotel with a rooftop bar so we gave that a go with our free drink voucher - yes it was outside but we had to use our imagination for the 'rooftop' bit. The staff at the bar were not familiar with the vouchers so had to contact the Mercure. To sum up - we have stayed with Accor/Mercure many many times in London and Europe. This is not a four star hotel - impossible - three would be a true description. This Mercure is the most basic we have ever stayed in but the location is excellent with Hyde Park three minutes walk as well as the canal. Our review is a true reflection of our experience. Would we stay again or recommend? Only in a different room type and even then I'm not sure - but it is worth considering
