Terrible hotel. Stay away.

I took a group of students to London and our educational travel company booked this place. Pluses: 1) Near the tube stop--about 7 minute walk. 2) The elevators were fast. 3) The staff was great--we had a middle-of-the-night medical issue and they were very helpful. 4) The rooms were quiet. (You could hear London street noise, but you're in London!) 5) Beds were comfortable 6) The light in the small toilet room (see below) turned on automatically and stayed on when you went back to bed, turing off on it's own--this was cool and I'd never seen this before. 7) Lots of decent Indian food and some good pubs near the hotel. Minuses: 1) Many rooms smelled like sewage. 2) For doubles, the twin beds were next to each other, with no night stand in between, being rather awkward for students sharing a room. 3) The shower was basically in the room, so it was awkward for someone else to stay in the room if someone was showering. The water temperature also changed on its own as you took a shower. 4) The toilet was in its own little prison like square room. 5) No fridge, no microwave, no place to put your clothes except about three hangers hanging on a bar in the room. 6) Food was okay, but just croissants, muffins, toast and canned peaches, oranges and bananas, and small pancakes. No hot things really, like eggs. Sometimes the drink dispensers were fine, and sometimes watery.

We paid extra person for our 5 years old child for 496.6 pounds for 4 nights!!!! More than what we paid 421 pounds for 1 room 2pax. No place to ask considerations no place to ask help as the reception manager is not willing to talk. The worst??? the reception who were there talks like your not a guest...not even good morning!(every morning we saw her) When ask where is the reception? She answers you back with - check.in 3pm not now.... like...really?(we heard her arguing also with other guest) then the other one who charged us, is not even well knowledgeable of her job. She charged us for my 5 yr.old due to fire regulations but not even registered the guest who is staying??? Yes! she never got our IDS and signature. She got also mistakenly void the card and cannot explain well the procedure of the cancellation. Shes not even sorry.(entire stay also no good morning she just look at you- like where is the customer service here?) We came from 1am flight with 11 hrs flyng time from dubai with a kid and when arriving to hotel this is what we got. We have no energy to argue anymore. We are even confident to book this hotel as this is not our first time booking with IBIS and all our previous stay staffs were excellent. Even other all.accor hotels we stayed. So much disappointed that our family vacation started like this. Better check your staffs as it will drag the other staffs who are working better.

The room was very clean and comfortable, the neighborhood okay, and the location convenient for where I had to go. Had a good night sleep and a nice hot shower. Overall five stars, since it's exactly what you would expect, except: the breakfast. I felt bad for the breakfast hosts who meticulously kept every surface clean, straightened out the glasses and cups, kept everything restocked all the time, and worked really hard ... with substandard food. The coffee was terrible (it says "Tchibo," but that's hard to believe), the milk-coffee lukewarm, the apple juice colored water, the bread of the cheapest kind, the peaches sour, ... I know it's a budget hotel, but maybe getting the breakfast items from just one shelf higher at the supplier?

I must admit I was a little skeptical walking into this hotel. We had been to the British museum and a show in the west end as we were checking in around 10pm. There were lots of people milling around the restaurant and lobby and it seemed for no reason. But I worried needlessly. We were not disturbed at any point during our stay. We stay in London one weekend per year with the kids. We chose this location as we wanted to visit museums in the east end and around the docks. The room was comfortable and clean. We had a great nights sleep and would definitely stay again if we were visiting attractions in that part of the city
