My recent stay at Novotel Kolkata during a business trip was extremely disappointing. My in-laws visited me for a couple of hours and were not staying overnight. Although I provided soft copies of their ID proofs having the details of 1 side only and explained the situation, your staff repeatedly insisted on physical copies with both side details and continued questioning us for hours. As the registered guest, I had already submitted my own ID. The manner in which this was handled felt unnecessarily harassing and embarrassing. At the same time, I noticed another individual roaming the lobby in a towel without any intervention from the staff, which shows inconsistent enforcement of hotel policies. Additionally, the air conditioning in my room was not functioning properly, which further affected my stay.

I was informed that my room was not available at the time of arrival. I had already requested an early check-in, so I was surprised when I was told that the only available option was to pay an additional ₹4,000 for a superior room. My meeting was scheduled for 12:30 PM, and waiting until the standard check-in time was not practical. If no room was available despite my prior request, I believe I should have been informed in advance so I could have considered staying at another hotel. I found this situation disappointing as it resulted in unnecessary inconvenience, wasted time, and additional expense. I expected better service and a more customer-friendly approach to handling early check-in requests.
