Over the last few visits to Grand Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao, I found that the Priority Desk at lobby was unattended. Besides, the quality of breakfast went down since the foreign chef left (12 years ago ?). And we are asked to use straws (not spoons) to take yoghurt.

Service is bad. No bellboy to help on luggage. Receptionist is not friendly. Never greet and smile. The room is good and spacious. However, personally, I don't like the door to the toilet beside my bed. They should make the door opening at the entrance rather than directly beside the bed. The buffet breakfast and lunch is terrible. Food is cold and presentation is bad. Lack of varieties and serves same food daily. I don't feel like having my breakfast and lunch after having same cold food 2 consecutive days. I just took the soup noodles. Sometime, even the soup is not hot for the noodles.

I have been staying at this hotel several times a year since around 2009 and have always been pretty satisfied with my experience. This time was no different, the hotel was unusually busy because of the import/export expo but the hotel staff seemed to have no issues handling everything. I did have one issue at checkout, it seems that another guest charged some drinks at the bar to my room unbeknownst to me so this caused some issues at checkout but I was ultimately just charged for the room and asked to provide my email and phone number so the hotel could investigate and get back to me, it seems that the issue was resolved and there was just a mistake with the room number used at the bar. Anyway, it might not be a bad idea to have a better system for charging drinks to your room, perhaps the person charging to the room should just provide their room card to be scanned? Anyway, I'm satisfied overall.

The location was quiet while traffic can be manageable. Breakfast was up to standard but the coffee machine needed some more cups which disappeared during peak time at around 7:00-8:00 in the morning.

This reservation was made via Accor Hotels official website. However, when I arrived in the hotel and provided all info to the front desk, the staff was unable to locate my reservation - even though I have shown her my confirmation email and SMS from Accor. A kind advise, if you are not familiar with the check-in procedure, please check with your manager or other seniors instead of question your guests. Or, at least let the guest know that you are trying to help instead of making the guest feel like I was cheating. Thanks for duty manager - Calvin Xue for helping me to locate my reservation and check-in (at that point I have stood at the front for a while and the situation embarrassed me and my friend). Last but not least, please check the guest's profile carefully as you guys logged my last name and email address wrong in your system, and you told me to double check but did not apologise for your mistake - which doesn't make any sense, since I MADE THE RESERVATION ON OFFICIAL WEBSITE AND I FILLED MY INFO CORRECTLY. First of all ,the location of the hotel is good.20-3mins to Hongqiao airport.10mins to the nearest subway station by foot. They has a variety of breakfast which I found it really nice. This has always been my number 1 choice when travel to or though Shanghai. I like the relatively quiet neighborhood and the guests. The recent changes are visible though, there is no more personal attention (in the past I always receive a personal welcome notes and some nice treats) and the remodeling gave a colder tone to the entire setting.
