Great location and fog friendly but terrible sleep

November 28th Stayed for the wife's birthday but was supposed to stay for 2 but for a mess up by me (the man on reception sorted it out for us and was great). Was glad we didn't as the mattress was terrible! The lifts were great and fast,the corridors have been touched up from the lumpy carpet. The room was fine except for looking a bit tatty in places and the tvs still the same outdated ons for the past 15 years. Broken sleep as the mattress was like sleeping on a rock, were both in our 50s and it made every problem with my knees and feet and the wife's back come back ten fold, had to take 4 painkillers to get some rest but was still up at 07:00 in pain to walk the dog. Yep its dog friendly hotel which was great news as is the location near the train station and city center.

Awful. They gave my friend’s room away, then left us sitting in the lobby until 4am before they found an alternative hotel. We’re all exhausted.

Avoid this firetrap.

This hotel is convenient to the train station but it is in an unsavory area where there are beggars and drunks. I did not feel safe there. The entrance is difficult to find, unimposing. The lift is tiny and ancient and did not fit 2 of us with luggage. The “path” to our room was strange, narrow and winding, with multiple doors to open. It seemed like a place where a fire would be lethal. The “receptionist” was the bartender. He had enough other things to do. There was no phone in the tiny room. There was an ancient wooden chair, a wood or simulated wood floor, a high step into the bathroom, a tiny tv, no temperature controls, very low lighting, no luggage rack, and a sink drain that was clogged. The weekend night cost $194, a ridiculously high price for what seemed like a 1 star🌠 hotel.

If you like your hotels to be smack in the middle of everything, congratulations - you’ve found it. This place is so central it’s practically gravitational. You could step out the front door and land directly in a tram, a pub, or possibly someone else’s night out. Checking in is an experience in itself — at the bar. It’s the kind of setup that feels like a test: “Would you like your room key, or another pint?” Naturally, I said both. Efficiency at its finest. My room was on the 4th floor and, mysteriously, an accessible one. Not sure if the staff were making a subtle comment about how I looked after check-in, but fair play - those handrails did come in handy the next morning. The trams outside provide a charming urban soundtrack ranging from “gentle hum” to “Boeing 747 preparing for takeoff.” Light sleepers might want earplugs; aviation enthusiasts will be thrilled. On the plus side, there’s a multi-storey car park directly opposite. If you’re driving, the hotel can validate your ticket for a whopping 20% discount. Just remember to do it before leaving - apparently, clairvoyance is not included in the room rate. Overall, a top choice if you want to be central, hydrated, and occasionally deafened. Would stay again - preferably on the side without the tram runway.

My second stay here, and I was just as impressed as the first time. The room was clean and comfy, the staff second to none, and the buffet breakfast amazing. The only negative was that the hotel uses very, very cheap toilet roll. Wafer thin.
