Great Stay

Arrived at the Ibis in Christchurch to the EXTREMELY LOUD music from an outdoor festival just near the hotel. So loud that the building was vibrating and we were offered ear plugs should we wish to sleep before 10.00pm when the music (noise) was to finish. Apparently this is an annual event held over three weekends. Would recommend not staying here while this was on. We had a very lovely receptionist check us in on Saturday 29th March (sorry I did not get her name). The room was small and not much room to move, but the comfy big beds more than made up for the lack of space. Bathroom was also small but it worked. Shower was hot and pressure was great. Loved the all in one shampoo-conditioner-body wash. Breakfast was good, fresh with lots of choice, and replenished often. Was lovely that the breakfast staff presented me with a birthday cake with a candle at breakfast on hearing that it was indeed my birthday that morning. Very lovely unexpected gesture. The bar staff member on Sunday night probably should look for a role that didn’t involve customer service. All other staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Location was great for walking and getting out and about, in the centre of Christchurch. Don’t normally stay at Ibis Hotels but would certainly recommend this one and would stay again should we be back.

Good location and helpful staff

Thank you for the opportunity to provide input to my stay. Overall, I was pleased with the location and found the room clean and comfortable. Also, I became unwell during my stay and had some good and bad experiences outlined as follows: - the heating in my room could not be adjusted. I called reception on my first night as I was starting to feel unwell and they came to alter it and told me it should adjust in 20 minutes - it didn't, always reverted back to 21. The staff member offered to shift me to another room, but being unwell I didn't have the capacity to deal with that. - I asked for a hot toddy (lemon and honey drink with either a dash of whiskey or rum) and listed as a cocktail (Irish) if you google it. Unfortunately, I was told the bar didn't have that available and once again, not being well, I didn't pursue it further. - Due to feeling decidedly more unwell, I came back from my conference early (around 12.30pm) on my second day (so had one more night left at Ibis). I hadn't eaten any lunch and thought I would get back to my room and order room service to have a nice soup and ask again about the hot toddy. Unfortunately, when I got down to the restaurant/bar, with the thought in mind I would walk them through the process to make a hot toddy, the area was closed and doesn't open until 4.00pm. Again, I was unwell and had no energy to walk down to the Irish Pub that was close by. I made do with a cup of tea and slept then waited patiently till 4.00pm to be able to order something. - When I phoned through after 4.00pm I asked for a soup and there was none on the menu. However, I am so grateful to a very empathetic Chef who made a special chicken broth for me. It was wonderful and I felt so much better after it. They also went to the trouble of trying to make me a hot toddy. It wasn't the best, but I am grateful that they tried and the lemon drink was good for me anyway. I wish I had thought to get them to google it like I did today, but with being unwell wasn't thinking. So overall, I am grateful to the staff for what they did for me. The team meal we had on our first evening was amazing. The staff put us in a private area (group of 11) and everyone in the group enjoyed their meal - except maybe one red cod meal. Thank you for the opportunity to feed back and to those staff who really did try their very best to be supportive, knowing I was unwell. With being unwell, I didn't take note of the names sorry, but the lady who seemed to be the Manager or Supervisor even asked if I would like to see a Doctor, which was very thoughtful. I was able to fly home as scheduled and am feeling stronger today, after a lot of sleep (day and night). Thank you to all those who helped me - being unwell when away from home is never fun.
