Beautiful old hotel

Very nice hotel. The staff, especially the manager, Gerard, were extremely helpful and friendly. For us, traveling with a rental car, the availability of secure, off street parking with direct access to the hotel’s back entrance, was an especially welcome feature.

A beautiful 'belle epoque' hotel sadly let down by its bedrooms and a strangely industrial restaurant. My room was old, lacking amenities (power sockets, safety accessories such as a non slip mat for the shower, only one chair in a double room and no desk light) and was in need of serious renovation. The lift did not operate correctly from our floor (apparently due to a missing part!). The restaurant named 'Shalimar' I assume after the 16th Century Shalamar Gardens in Lahore, renowned for their beauty, is a dark and depressing place with a steam punk industrial theme - so a bit of a mismatch there - however the food served was good. This beautiful 'grande dame' of a hotel deserves better and is certainly ready for a thoughtful refurbishment.

Very average Mercure Hotel

Really tired hotel and not really what I’d expect of the Mercure brand. Everything about the Hotel was run down. Very few staff were available on our visit and bar was closed early when we fancied a night cap. Such a shame but much better options in Le Mans.

A hotel in a beautiful building but with tired rooms

A lovely building with great underground car park but the hotel is tired and in need of a makeover. Positively our privilege room had plenty of space and a great shower but had no individual air conditioning and antiquated lighting system. The restaurant was shut but that was not an issue as it is an internal space without external light and so is quite stuffy and claustrophobic. Breakfast was there and it was average for a Mercure. There is also a small bar adjacent the restaurant with limited seating and it was not attractive to us at all.

The staff was amazing, I will say that. The hotel itself, however, needs to be gutted and renovated. The entire place is musty, and our room was so old no amount of cleaning would have helped it. The carpet was old and stained, the bathroom had a slight smell of urine. We had picked the hotel because of its location and the fact it had a gym, but given how old and consequently unhygienic the place was I didn’t even try the gym. Avoid if at all possible.
