The Ibis Como hotel is located in Grandate, close to Chiasso and the Swiss border. 30 minutes from Milan Malpensa Airport and close to the A9 motorway, it is also ideal for business trips. Outdoor car park with charging stations. Buffet breakfast, typical cuisine and specialties in the restaurant open for dinner (Monday to Friday), cozy rooms and a staff always available.

Ibis is a budget hotel in the surroundings of Como, just 15 minutes drive from the center, convenient for visiting the city: from the medieval entrance of Porta Torre, to Piazza Duomo and Villa Olmo, an elegant classic villa; take the funicular and enjoy the "Balcony on the Alps" in Brunate with lake and mountains view. After exploring the city, enjoy an aperitif at the bar open 24/24.

Kind staff, location is not ideal

Our group tour is staying at a number of Ibis hotels as we travel through Europe, and the Ibis chain has been tidy and kind throughout our journey. At this hotel, the staff was very helpful. We arrived with a large group, and almost everyone chose to eat dinner at the hotel. The staff was great in terms of helping us all! We thank them for the reliable service. Cons: Breakfast is just OK. The location is not very convenient for walking or ambiance, but this was just an evening stop for us, so it served its purpose.

The hotel is located in a dingy area, immediately opposite is a big, abandoned, dilapidated building with broken windows and graffiti etc, which is your view when in the restaurant. Hotel clean enough, friendly staff at reception, ordered a taxi for us when Uber kept cancelling. Stayed 3 nights, immediately realised the bed was not good as when you lay on it, there was a dip in the middle. Checked the bed slats but appeared fine and assumed mattress was the issue. 3rd night we checked again and the whole main supporting beam underneath was cracking and touching the floor. Informed reception about 11pm and they moved us to another room straight away. TV claimed you could cast from your devices but this didn’t work. Breakfast was average, hot food was very dry, lumpy scrambled eggs and chopped up hot dog weiners. Pastries good, tea bag box wasn’t refilled. Pillows on bed were extremely soft, head went straight through them. Only 1 extra pillow in cupboard for a double bed. Air con in room but when it didn’t seem to work and we enquired, we were told it could only be used at certain times of the day (after 6pm). Hotel is not conveniently local to Como, we hired a car and was about a 20-25 minute drive there. All in all, this hotel is just ok. Wouldn’t stay again and would find somewhere closer to Como.

Budget hotel - fell short on basics

Went with hubby for a quick romantic getaway to Milan & Lake Como. Loation is convenient enough as near main trainline and lots of parking if you drive. Very industrial area so not massively walkable & little in the way of immediate amenities. Grandate is not that close to Lake Como but a simple enough train ride away. In hindsight I would've researched this and booked a more local hotel - but bought a last minute package from wowcher. Hotel staff were lovely & hotel let us stash cases on last day to make the most of our time which was a bonus. Room was ok sizewise - bit grubby - hair in shower/brown marks on toilet which was a bit of a let down. Do expect cleanliness even in budget hotels. Bed was awful which is why this gets a poor rating - pillows & 'mattress' were like second hand prison goods & sheets def seen better days. Would not return & would recommend to stay closer to main areas Como/Milan etc.
