Good for business not holiday

Very basic hotel. Reception area beautiful. Rooms very bland. Bathrooms even worse. Feels like a hospital bathroom. No amenities unless asked for. NO PORTER so had to get our own luggage with trolley. Near a little mall, 20 minute walk to Segrada Familia. Other than that, a bit far from everything else

Checkin was slow but after that great stay with great breakfast. Close to metro station.

Unpleasant stay

Worst stay experience in Barcelona. The rooms are so small that a family can’t comfortably stay, and the bathroom felt like an old hospital tiny and very dated. The cleaning staff didn’t clean properly, no water was provided in the room, and when we tried to order something kid-friendly through room service, there was nothing available. Honestly, it felt like a complete waste of money. I absolutely hated it. Breakfast was the biggest rip-off: the coffee was cold, the crepes were cold, the bacon was cold everything was disgusting. No one can eat food like that. Maybe I’m not used to Spanish breakfasts, but for someone who has travelled the world, I expected Novotel to offer a proper international breakfast. Even the fruit wasn’t ripe. Overall, a very unpleasant stay and I would never return.

My stay at Novotel Barcelona City has been nothing short of a disaster, and I strongly advise others to avoid this hotel at all costs. Check-in and payment were an utter shambles and, shockingly, the issues continued throughout my stay. Even after management assured me the situation was resolved, the problems persisted. Blaming everything on a “new system” does not excuse the incompetence or the unhelpful attitude displayed by staff. The condition of the room was equally unacceptable. The bathroom had black mould in several areas around the bath/shower and was part broken. On top of that, noise from the floor above (19th) was constant well past 10 p.m. on both nights, as though furniture was being dragged around endlessly. The morning wasn't any better, with loud construction or worker activity directly overhead , when I went to check they were sanding the floor. No notice was provided that this would be my experience. The breakfast team only added to the frustration. The staff were far from friendly, and on the second morning they outright refused me breakfast—another completely unacceptable experience for a hotel of this brand and price point. The only redeeming feature of the hotel is the view from the upper floors, but even that doesn’t compensate for the poor location and the long list of problems. Management was aware of the issues yet offered excuses rather than solutions, and none of it explains the consistently negative staff attitude. Overall, this hotel is severely mismanaged and fails on multiple fronts: service, cleanliness, professionalism, and comfort. I would not return, and I highly recommend avoiding Novotel Barcelona City altogether.

Hotel saved my family's city break.

We came here early Saturday morning due to rapid hotel change for city break in Barcelona. We almost did not sleep the previous night. At the arrival we were taken good care of, the stuff member explained what to do to be able to check in early. Overall reception did everything and above to help us. Hotel is super clean, rooms are completely sound proof with great view (We stayed at 14th floor). Bathroom could be renovated, I would prefer to have regular shower rather than "bathtub - shower". Breakfast offered is great. The location is good, walking distance to a lot of stuff and easy access to metro + plenty to do around with kids. There is a restaurant at top flow with swimming pool and great views. Its well priced so we recommend to pay a visit. The cons: Access cards happen to decode and you need to ask reception to change them, coffee at breakfast could be improved. A bottle of water a day to the room would be good - instead you just get one and it is not refilled later on. Overall the hotel saved my weekend trip so I highly recommend it. If we go to Barcelona again, we will book again at this hotel for sure.
