A Pleasant Stay

I stayed at the Novotel for two nights, each either side of a hiking trip in Fiordland. My standard rooms on both nights were clean and comfortable with adequate space for a solo traveller. Check in was efficient and the reception staff were informative about the hotel’s facilities and I was, on the second occasion, pleasantly surprised that my suitcase (that the hotel stored during my absence) was already in my allocated room upon my arrival. All the staff I encountered were very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. I understand the hotel is gradually refurbishing and made my bookings with this in mind. This didn’t impact upon my stay at all other than noticing that my bathroom basin could have been replaced due to a rather long crack - a visual rather than functional issue. Accommodation in Queenstown is always priced at a premium so the Novotel might not appear to be inexpensive compared to similar hotels in other locations. However, given the cost of other Queenstown options , it is good value for the price. 10/10 for the excellent location and access to other services, restaurants etc.

The location is the best thing about this hotel.Otherwise, needs major renovations to what is obviously a tired hotel.Our toilet failed one day. A quickie "repair " was undertaken but it still did not work properly. It took a lot of convincing to change rooms.Despite 5 nights accommodatiin, they insisted I pay for one coffee (had at breakfast - their machine was serving up syrup- derived coffee) at a cost of $5.61 (incl GST and credit card surcharge).The girl also tried to charge me for a wine package that we neither ordered nor set eyes on. The hotel is NOT up to the level of their charges!

The hotel room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The location is excellent and the usual Novotel perks for kids were very welcome -- my kids loved the small play lounge next to reception. Housekeeping and evening shift staff in the restaurant and bar area were exceptional. My kids wrote happy notes to housekeeping. The waiter in the restaurant on our first night was warm and welcoming and extremely attentive -- he was so helpful with identifying good choices from the menu for our allergies. Every time we encountered him he was friendly and courteous -- he rescued what turned out to be a less than standard experience. As other reviews have mentioned, parking is expensive -- but on the upside it includes a (not optional) valet service. For us this was the simplest option for one parent + two kids + three suitcases + hand luggage. Check-in was not the warmest welcome and was a little slow. No information was given about guest services and hotel amenities -- we were just directed to our room. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast was great, and the bar is a lovely place to sit at the end of the day. Our best meal of the stay was in front of the fire on our last night. Few of the many staff we saw at breakfast ever greeted us or spoke, with the exception of whoever was ticking off the guest list each day. Smiles were few and far between. Several staff ignored me when I tried to get their attention to ask about refilling milk or allergen information -- I gave up trying by day three. Our stay was going OK until we were made late one morning by a receptionist who forgot to tell concierge that we had requested our car. Mistakes happen, but when I politely enquired at reception after 15 minutes spent waiting, what followed was frankly a very poor standard of service, during which a staff member pretended to have poor English, which was magically restored when I finally showed some annoyance. The manager rang our room later that evening after I'd notified reception that I'd like the issue looked into. I was offered the cost of parking taken off my bill in apology. I refused, explaining I had only wanted staff to understand how they had made me feel, but she insisted, and I accepted with thanks. On the final day, however, my car was left parked in the middle of the entrance to the hotel driveway -- photos attached.

Great Skiing holiday in comfort

Skiing holiday in New Zealand. Four days of skiing only. We flew over the ditch for a quick break. Squashed in as much time on slopes as possible. IT WAS GREAT!! The accommodation was fantastic. Clean, comfortable, quiet, relaxing, great service and a lovely restaurant.

As always the location is fantastic and cannot be beaten. Staff were excellent on arrival very accomodating and helpful as myself and my daughter just arrived off the ski field after a big long day skiing. Sorted us a carpark next door at Wilson car park. The room was great warm clean and comfortable excellent facilities especially for the price it was great value. A vibrant atmosphere in the hotel and well worth the stay as always.
