My wife and I had flown in from Melbourne and stayed at Novotel. It is very centrally located in Queenstown, very near downtown and lots of shops, and yet, it did seem like it was in a relatively quiet area of town. It took about 5 minutes to get to the heart of shopping centers, restaurants, and cruise ships. Room seemed so nice and clean. Not that we used it, but we were surprised that there was a bathtub - first one after 15 days in Australia! And ... a first for us: Heated towel rack! Oooh, on a cold day or after a shower, it feels so good against the skin! One item that is missing are electrical outlets near the beds - they're across the room! Why doesn't a hotel place electrical outlets by each bedside? Another problem: if you are using an electrical converter, many of the outlets are very close to the "On/Off" button, so if you push the converter too high and/or high, it's turned off! You'd think that the "On/Off" button would be positioned higher so the electrical converter would affect it, Breakfast was about 'normal' for hotel - nothing unusual or outstanding. Service people were very friendly and helpful.

Can’t beat the location!

My husband and I stayed here for five nights as we explored Queenstown and surrounding area. What we really liked about the location was that while you are so close to the entire “downtown” core of Queenstown, you are also kind of tucked away on the last side street so you are close to the hustle and bustle while also being a bit secluded. We also really enjoyed the proximity to Queenstown Gardens which is an absolute gem. Many restaurants are nearby as well. The bed was comfortable and we found being at the far end of the hallway with a view to the gondola, our room was very quiet every night. Staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Friendly helpful staff bed was comfortable, checkin was quick, breakfast had lots of options. Short walk to the gardens or lakeside.

Eat, Drink & be WOWED!

I don't often write reviews, but the team at Novotel Lakeside absolutely deserves a shout-out. They are the secret ingredient that takes this place from a good bar to a great one. We were in Queenstown taking a stroll along the lakeside when we decided to check out the bar at Novotel. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine smiles. The mixologists were true experts. We ended up trying nearly all the available cocktails. Loved the Manhattan and the Apple Bourbon. The food was phenomenal especially the braised lamb. Do try it if you get a chance. I am definitely going back for more! A round of applause to Christian, Martin, Prabhat, Sonia and Merlyn. Keep doing what you are doing. You guys are amazing! If you're looking for a place with not only great drinks but also a warm, professional, and fun-loving staff, this is it. Management should be very proud of the team they've built. You have a truly valuable team here - do everything you can to retain them.

Go to the Sofitel instead

As other reviews have mentioned the Novotel is quite a tired hotel that could definitely use an upgrade. We stayed 3 nights at the Sofitel Queenstown and it is a world of difference for a very similar price. Luckily we only had 1 night, as the room is smallish and the bathroom tiny. Amenities are non existent, with a few instant coffee and tea packets, compared to the Sofitel which has a Nespresso machine, quality teas and snacks ect. Location is nice at the end near the botanic gardens. We had a 12pm check out but found we had been locked out of our room at 1115 as the check out time passed and had to get the card rekeyed. Definitely stay at the Sofitel instead if you are an Accor member as they provide the free afternoon tea, canapés and the welcome gift, none of this is at the Novotel.
