Receptionist Demanded Room Keys Back After We Paid

We are loyal Accor members, but this experience was unacceptable. The receptionist Peter was incredibly rude. I checked in, paid the hotel tax, and he told me everything else was paid for (it was). He handed me the keys. Two minutes later, he demanded the room keys back, claiming we had cancelled the reservation and hadn’t paid. He was nasty and rude about it. We had emailed to inquire about cancelling the reservation for a credit, but did not go through with it. He started yelling at me. Only when I showed him the confirmed payment (booked through our credit card), did he say everything was fine. No apology. He clearly messed up, and treated us so disrespectfully because of it. What an awful start to our trip.

If you are looking for somewhere close to the Centre, clean and comfortable this place is ideal. Breakfast is available but we used local cafes. Good selection of restaurants around too. There are selection of drinks & snacks available 24/7. No frills but no too basic.

Confirmed cancellation, but unfair charge and no customer support

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Ibis Berlin City Potsdamer Platz. I booked a room for April 6–8, 2025, but cancelled the reservation on the same day, well within the free cancellation window. The Accor platform confirmed the cancellation immediately — both via email and on the reservation page, where the status was updated to “Cancelled.” I saved screenshots and email confirmations as proof. Despite not staying at the hotel or using any services, I was charged €98, along with a message thanking me for using the “Fast Check-out” service. I immediately contacted the hotel and provided all evidence, only to receive a generic reply stating the reservation “was not cancelled in the system.” Since then, I have received no further response, despite following up several times. As a frequent traveler, I have always trusted the Accor network for reliable service. Unfortunately, this experience showed a lack of internal coordination and complete disregard for the customer. It is unacceptable for an international hotel chain to charge for a service that was clearly cancelled — and then ignore the guest’s complaint. I do not recommend this property, and I’m seriously reconsidering my loyalty to the Accor brand as a whole.

Additionally, based on the information you provided, it appears there was no cancellation number generated, which is crucial for verifying the cancellation request. When you made your reservation, you confirmed the Terms and Conditions, which included the cancellation policy. We do acknowledge that there seems to have been a misunderstanding regarding the status of your reservation, and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. We truly value our guests and take all feedback seriously. Please rest assured that we will continue to investigate this matter to ensure better service coordination moving forward. We planned a short Berlin city break and needed a nice hotel in a good location. This hotel provided a perfect solution. We arrived late at night and were welcomed by a friendly receptionist. With ibis hotels, it’s a fairly standard offering and this hotel was no different. It was simple, clean and well presented. It was well located too - easy to get to on the subway with the station maybe only 100m away. We walked to a few of the nearby attractions such as Checkpoint Charlie, the Topography of Terror, the Mall of Berlin & Potsdamer Platz. A well-priced hotel, conveniently located. We would stay here again.
