Transferred here from Ibis - Nice hotel, well-provided room, but no desk and no hotel car park

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Novotel, which was a surprise as we had booked the Ibis next door, but due to our room being out of service we were transferred to the Novotel. It was all fairly seamless and after a minor delay we were in our room. The room (first floor) was a good size, and in the standard Novotel layout with separate toilet room and bathroom (not a fan of this layout as you have to walk to a different room to wash your hands). The bathroom had a good powerful shower with dual shower heads and a heated mirror. The bedroom had a very large wall-mounted TV, a comfy bed, sofa, wardrobe, safe, kettle with coffee / tea, and a small low table. The main gripe with the room was the lack of any work desk...I needed to work (it was a work trip) and all I could do was use the low table and sit on the small padded stool seat, but it wasn't very comfortable and there was no light nearby to illuminate my work papers. I have stayed at dozens of hotels and I can't remember the last time my room had no desk. The Wi-Fi worked well and was free. There were sufficient power sockets in the room although the USB charge ports on my side of the bed didn't work (it appears there was no actual socket behind the holes as my USB lead felt very loose and could slot into the hole either way around) - put simply the phone didn't charge, so I had to use my UK plug adapter. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful on both check-in and check-out. The hotel has no car park and the recommended parking next door was very expensive (I went to book in advance and for a two day stay it was over £80) - instead I parked near one of the tram stops outside the city and got the Metrolink in and out...a fraction of the cost albeit not so convenient. Overall a pleasant enough stay, but really missed not having a proper work desk.

The Novotel is located in the heart of Manchester in the city centre. It is not too far from Piccadilly Gardens and St Peter's Square and Chinatown is also just a stone's throw from the hotel. The room we had was very clean and tidy and had a massive shower which was fantastic and the bathroom was well presented. The room was clean and tidy and quite spacious. I also spent a bit of time in the bar and the staff there were friendly and welcoming. Note, They only take card payments at the bar. NO CASH PERMITTED!!

Fantastic stay, but beware parking

We love visiting Manchester especially for the Christmas markets and always book a suite at this hotel for the added space and storing all the shopping. All the staff are amazing from check in to the Exchange bar, Always very helpful and engaging with nothing to difficult for them. We arrived a little late for sandwich orders but a quick telephone call by the staff member to the chef sorted out our order. The room was perfect for us with the minimum of fuss booking in. My only problem this time was parking I expected it to be expensive but I thought with the 25% off it would make it reasonable. However, what the website doesn't make clear is you need to book in advance, which in itself increases the price, then use a code to get the discount, or get a £75 !!! bill for a less than 48 hour stay. If I had done my homework on prices , arrival times and pre-booking and not just trusted the words 25 % off for guests maybe it would have been a different outcome. My initial response was 'not using this hotel again' but maybe with hindsight that maybe a bit rash but we'll see.

Solid, if unexciting city centre option

Conventional Novotel hotel with standard design from the 2010s (not the newest interior but still recent). Positives include a very central and user-friendly locations around the corner from Oxford Road station and near to all centre areas, friendly staff, and an above-average food and beverage provision relative to other UK Novotels. Room for improvement in the housekeeping - most of our toiletry bottles were either empty or approaching empty, which wasn’t ideal. In sum, not the most premium Novotel I’ve stayed in, but still solid and worth another stay, if the price were right.

Fantastic location and great service. We were checked in by Nicole and checked out by Robin, both of them were genuinely friendly and flexible accommodating our requests. Breakfast is served in the next door Novotel. The breakfast offers Cereals, eggs, bread station, salad, fruit and yogurt. Good coffee station where you could make your own choice coffee ☕️. Overall a fantastic choice for a one night stopover…Will definitely come back.
