Excellent city centre budget hotel

I really can’t understand all the negative reviews on here! We paid next to nothing for 2 nights just before Christmas - rooms, although pretty basic, were spotless and modernly decorated, as were all the communal areas. Staff were all lovely and polite. It has everything you need and would expect from a budget hotel - I’m not too sure what people on here were expecting to be honest! The location is great, 5/10 min walk to Christmas markets and shops. The immediate area seemed a little seedy and I probably wouldn’t feel comfortable walking alone at night, but it’s easy enough to get a taxi. There was a security guard in reception at night making sure only guests could enter which was really reassuring. Can’t comment on the bar or restaurant as we didn’t use either, but the bar looked well stocked and the food menu sounded appealing. Q Park car park next door which you get a 50% discount at through the hotel, really reassuring knowing your car is left in a secure car park.

Booked for 3 nights with my work but only checked in for the last night. Desk staff woman, when she finally saw fit to acknowledge me, snapped, “ Have you paid for early check in?” before actually finding my reservation. Room basic, blood or ketchup on bedside light switch, you would stay here if you really couldn’t find the means for anything else in Sheffield. Terrible area with no restaurants unless you’re a fan of Eritrean food. Due to limitations walking I attempted to order food at the counter adjacent to checkin. The man checking people in was also the waiter and bartender so service was, let’s say slow. A family of 5 ordered ahead of me and I was told because of this unexpected and demanding situation I would have to wait a minimum of 25 minutes! Sheffields worst offering to date.

The hotel itself is not bad, pretty basic and compact, but it was clean. My biggest issue was no air-conditioning, and on the sixth floor it was unbelievably hot. It was a very uncomfortable nights sleep because it was just too hot, saving grace was that you could at least open a window! It's a central location, so great for exploring, although is in a pretty rundown area so not entirely sure I'd feel safe exploring at night. But it all in all, it was an OK base for the weekend.

Hotel is in a rather rundown area of the city in my opinion. Check in was ok. Room was ok. View from room not so good. There was an issue with another guest that the staff tried to deal with the best they could but not ideal for other guests to learn about. Breakfast was not the best but not the worst. Bacon plenty of fat. No choice of how you would like your eggs done. Two other guests gave their room number for breakfast but were told nobody was in those rooms. Clearly there was. On the plus side the tea bags did enable a really nice cup of tea. Not a hotel I would go back to based on the breakfast and the surrounding area.
