The hotel itself is not bad, pretty basic and compact, but it was clean. My biggest issue was no air-conditioning, and on the sixth floor it was unbelievably hot. It was a very uncomfortable nights sleep because it was just too hot, saving grace was that you could at least open a window! It's a central location, so great for exploring, although is in a pretty rundown area so not entirely sure I'd feel safe exploring at night. But it all in all, it was an OK base for the weekend.

Hotel is in a rather rundown area of the city in my opinion. Check in was ok. Room was ok. View from room not so good. There was an issue with another guest that the staff tried to deal with the best they could but not ideal for other guests to learn about. Breakfast was not the best but not the worst. Bacon plenty of fat. No choice of how you would like your eggs done. Two other guests gave their room number for breakfast but were told nobody was in those rooms. Clearly there was. On the plus side the tea bags did enable a really nice cup of tea. Not a hotel I would go back to based on the breakfast and the surrounding area.

A mixed bag. Great location to explore Sheffield with a tram stop right next to the hotel. Q car park needs booking in advance for 50% off - they'll email you a discount code to use once you've booked your stay. The room was bright and clean and it was surprisingly quiet. Staff were nice. However, the width of the single beds and the quality of the pillow was laughable. Bring your own pillows if you're a UK resident and driving. Sad that early check-in is now part of the business model and even with a long history with Accor that they could see from my booking history, once a Gold member and my wife is Platinum - there was no chance of an early check-in on my current 'Classic Level'. Overall, not bad.

Poor Customer Service

I booked a year in advance of my trip. Due to circumstances the booking went out of my mind and I was unable to make the trip. I was only reminded of my booking via a phone call the day after I was due to check in. I was aware of the terms of conditions that I would be charged the cost of one nights stay for a no show. I know it was my responsibility, but I was very disappointed the hotel did not have the courtesy to send me a reminder of my stay. My last contact with them being the confirmation of my booking a year ago. Doctor, dentist, hospital, other hotel chains where I have stayed and my line of work all send numerous reminders of appointments/bookings when they have been made at a shorter notice than a year in advance. For an established name like Ibis this seems unacceptable they do not send such reminders and shows how little they care for the customer. Not a chain I will be looking to use again or would recommend.

When I arrived at this hotel the 2 staff behind the counter were having an important discussion but politely acknowledged me saying they wouldn't be a moment. However check in was not until 3pm but they let me leave my luggage in their storage area so I could go for a wander in the city. When I returned I was checked in promptly by the gentleman behind the desk and found I had a room on the top floor. However one minor mishap that happened was when I entered my room, a really bad odour hit my nose and then I noticed a wet patch on the carpet. I went back to the reception to report and the young lady (who had long black hair and wore glasses) was very efficient in coming up with me so I could show her in person what the problem was. She did sincerely apologise and thankfully there was an engineer in the building who would promptly get on with fixing it. As for me I got moved to another room and I completely forgot to ask for a desk fan as it was a warm day. So I went back down to reception and asked the same young lady for it who was extremely helpful in getting one organised for me. I even thanked her and complimented her helpfulness There is a good chance I will visit Sheffield again in the future, but if I do I will certainly stay here at this hotel because of how well organised the staff are when it comes to doing their job in keeping customers happy.
