Had a great stay at the MERCURE in Nice having stayed there in 2024 and feeling we still had lots to see in NIce; we were so happy we went back in 2025 Situated in the heart of Nice 10 minutes from the Promenade De Anglais and great for travel by foot train bus or tram to anywhere no matter how far a field Monaco/Cannes/Eze/Antibe. Hotel is contemporary modern clean and staff are super friendly speaking numerous languages. We were situated on 6th floor this time with a view of bustling Nice outside our window and we had a balcony this time with two chairs. Rooms are spacious for two, and tv shower and storage for case and clothes...fridge and safe also. They provide hairdryer kettle too...so its enough Breakfast is from 6am to 10am weekdays/saturday and 6am to 11am Sunday its a great mix of continental and hot breakfast, fresh french bread, croissants jams, hams cheeses crepes, there is juice coffee machine and hot food eggs, bacon beans, sausages, so enough for all beautifully presented and tables are well set out so you can help yourself, from thg e buffet. there is a water machine in the reception where breakfast is served and croissants are provided during the morning. On the seventh floor in the evening the Roof top bar is well staffed and a great place to have a drink and a chat, sometimes they have quiet background music; or you can enjoy the Nice skyline, or chat to the friendly barman. we were blessed to have PSG loving Slyvan he was helpful friendly and funny and genuinely interested in us..he knew his stuff and was really a highlight of the stay; two nights running. The bar closes at 11pm but it is a great location thank you SLYVAN We have been twice and hope to go again; prices are great and service and amenities are excellent, there is another Mercure nearer the beach...but we love the RUe Grimaldi one...THANK YOU Guys for a wonderful stay...no complaints

Still a great hotel

Having used this hotel since 2014, it's still great value, bearing in mind that Nice is an expensive city to stay in. Again we had a clean, compact and comfortable room. The bathroom was clean and compact too, in line with the 'standard' rooms in the hotel. Air-conditioning worked really well - the advantage of a smaller room, windows open for fresh air too. Remember it's an old French building rather than a modern, purpose built hotel. Basically the room is just as described on the Accor website. Rooftop Terrace and bar is lovely too. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. The filtered water fountain saves you a fortune in buying bottled water The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the beach, shops and restaurants, and only short walk from the Jean Medicin tram stop, for an easy transfer from Nice airport. We chose a room only tariff as there is a supermarket next to the hotel and a health food shop about 1 minutes walk from the hotel. Next year's stay in Nice is already booked in this hotel!

Too expensive for an average hotel experience

The hotel has good aspects such as its location (less than 10 mins walk from the beach), a nice breakfast offering in an area kept spotlessly clean by a friendly team, and a rooftop bar. However, the room we stayed in was classed as a Privilege room - when we checked in the receptionist told us that we had a fridge bar with everything in it being complimentary which sounded great (as it was a privilege room which we’d paid extra for). It contained 3 random cans of fizzy soft drinks. Not very generous at all. So the room was apparently bigger (although we didn’t inspect a standard room so we take that one at face value). It was tired and had all the wear and tear of a well used room. The bathroom appeared to have been recently renovated although a crying tile was dislodged making it shabbier than it should have been. The bathroom itself is tiny with the toilet stuck behind the door and little room for manoeuvre. The toilet paper was the cheapest and thinnest you could imagine. No priviledges in the bathrooom to crow about. The final disappointment was the air conditioning which despite being set on the coldest setting barely gave out enough cool air to keep the room from being hot. It certainly didn’t make it cool and comfortable as we’d hoped. The worst part for all of this is that for an average hotel we paid way above average rates. Not as advertised would be my conclusion. And lastly who could have possibly thought that having a huge montage of a spooky clown filling the wall behind the bed was a good idea! Horror movie 🎥

Air conditioning non-existent and creepy clown!

When we first arrived at the hotel we were given a room in the first floor which was so dark and dingy. It also had bars on the windows and an awful view of a roof. We phoned reception and asked if we could have a higher up room. They were very accommodating and moved us to the fourth floor and as a bonus, the room was slightly bigger. However, the reason for the low rating of this review is that the air conditioning was appalling. It was non existent to be honest. We were hot and while getting ready in the mornings and evenings, and hot throughout the night which made it difficult to sleep. Not what you want when you’ve paid for an ‘air conditioned’ hotel in a 30 degree plus city! Overall, we didn’t like the hotel room but we got used to it. The clown on the walls is hideous and creepy - who thought that was a good idea!? The decor seems it’s been half renovated and half still dated and old - the walls have chips and peeling skirting boards etc. However, the room seemed clean and the cleaners did a good job. Unfortunately being hot the entire time ruined this stay for us and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone!
