Great Hotel all in all. Good location close to the train station and not far from CBD. Most tourist spots can be reached by walk. Buses in front of the hotel. Easy access from the airport. Friendly and efficient staff. Rooms are not bad. Breakfast is very good. Two minor issues: 1. I had two separate bookings for two consecutive nights with two different room categories. I don't understand why it was impossible to give me one room for both nights (I had to check out and check in after one night and got a different room. There should have been an easier solution despite the two different room categories). 2. The gym is totally disappointing. Same goes for the "pool".

Air con in room not working. We arrived after 11:00 and tried to sleep but the air con was making loud weird noises. We asked for another room and this was provided at approx. 01:30 in the morning. No apology was given and no compensation Disgraceful experience for an 80 year old and a 77 year old or younger people as well!

Stayed for one night following returning from an overseas flight that came in late afternoon. Decided to do this and travel home on the train the following morning. Booked a King room about 3.5 weeks prior to our stay. When we got there and checked in, we were given a twin room, definitely not what was reserved. Went to reception and talked to the Priority Checkin person, who was just lovely, and she upgraded us after talking to the manager. The new room was fine, it was a Queen room with a balcony on the 13th floor. This was fine except we were leaving at 5.45am the next morning so was wasted on us. The only difference between the original room and this one, is the balcony, and the coffee was pods rather than Nescafe sachets. We also had robes which we didn't use. My main issue with this hotel is that I was not given the room I reserved. The fact that I had pre-paid and reserved a room WEEKS prior should have meant it was booked for us. We were told that all King rooms were full. Well.... yes, and one of them should have been by me! Giving away rooms that are booked by someone else sounds like something Qantas would do. They are rapidly losing loyal customers and respect, and I am hoping the hotel industry is not following suit. I appreciated the upgrade but was wasted on us for the very short time we were there.

Nice location, great breakfast selection and quality. Rooms and carpets looking bit worn now. Tray from meal service remained outside room a great deal of time after this complete causing a hazard. For a premium hotel a little more maybe expected

Unfortunately, The Mercure is very run down despite an apparent renovation in recent years. Upon entering the corridors, the tatty carpet and marked walls just confirm that this hotel has much room for improvement. The rooms are small and dark with small windows and no view. I didn't take my shoes off because I was nervous about what was on the worn out carpet. Toiletries are very basic. Just a communal pump pack of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. Plus one shower cap (not great in a twin room). The tissue box was almost empty and there was only one face washer (again for a twin room?). No robe, slippers, mini bar, coffee maker, bottled water or any other small luxuries. I emailed the hotel a few days before arrival about a specific request. I didn't receive a reply and the request wasn't addressed. I emailed after departing about an error with the invoice. Again, no reply after several days and when I rang I also didn't receive an answer. Communication is dismal. The pool is accessed via a dingy stairwell and it's very small, dark and underwhelming. My children took one look and were ready to leave! We ordered a range of meals from room service and it was average at best. Should have got Uber Eats. Obviously, the location opposite Central station and near Woollies is a plus. The check in staff and concierge were polite and friendly but I would never stay here again.
