Horrific Lack of Sympathy

I should be arriving today for a 2-day stay at this hotel. Instead, due to being told on Friday that I have terminal illness, I’ve had to cancel. It’s technically a non-refundable booking but I thought I’d ask if any refund might be possible in such extreme circumstances. I accept that the hotel is well within its rights to say no, but I was shocked to receive the reply below, with its total absence of sympathy and basic humanity. I would advise everyone to avoid this hotel, if this is their idea of hospitality:

Perfectly located very close to the centre of everything, it is very easy to walk any of the tourist spots from here within a few minutes. Good price for the room with comfy beds. The room would benefit from a kettle with some tea and coffee. Also the parking is a a little bit confusing as you need to go to reception and pay for a parking ticket before you go into the underground car park.

Nice, clean and perfectly located hotel. Parking garage entrance is just a few minutes away, under the square where the hotel is located. Comfortable beds, good shower. Only a few minutes walk to the historic centre with lots of restaurants

We had a very good two night stay at Ibis Braga Centro. The hotel is located in central Braga, very close to an area closed to vehicles, where most historical monuments, shopping and cafes are located. The room was basic but spacious, with comfortable beds and a beautiful city view. We found the room to be very quiet, with none of the noises associated with other hotels. In line with the class of the hotel, the continental breakfast was modest but satisfying, with very helpful attendants. Parking was nearby, and very accessible. There were a few cons. When inquiring about an advertised clothes iron available at the reception, we were told that is was out being used by someone else. It seems there was only one iron for the hotel. Another inconvenience, was that there weren't any available dedicated parking spaces to unload or load passengers and luggage in front of the hotel. I had to drive my car onto the sidewalk in front of the hotel, with cars passing by, dangerously, in the single lane in the street.

I would highly recommend this hotel

Excellent location,close to all historical sites.Arranged pay parking for 10 eur a day.Very good breakfast.Very helpfull reception staff, I would special mention gentlemen with name Ricardo.His perfect knowledge in English helps us a lot.
