Convenient but I hated check-in process

The hotel's location on Tilburg's main square is both nice and convenient, and our room's view of the square was definitely a plus. However, a few issues made our stay less enjoyable than we had anticipated. Firstly, the check-in process was more stressful than necessary. I received at least three emails requesting that I pre-checked in online and downloaded an app for the key. After completing the process, I was given a code to use at a self-service counter to obtain the key cards, too. I prefer physical key cards over a digital key since my phone's battery can easily run out while traveling, so downloading the app was useless. The room itself was nice, clean, and well-equipped. However, the mattress cover seemed too small for the mattress, and by morning, it had shifted halfway off, leaving me sleeping directly on the mattress topper. While the window could be opened and almost no noise came from the busy square when closed, the soundproofing of the room was not very effective. We could hear noises from adjacent rooms and doors slamming at all hours of the night. Additionally, there is a stand next to the entrance door with umbrellas available for borrowing at 2 euros each. While the umbrellas are sturdy, I find it petty to charge a non refundable deposit for them in a place as rainy as Tilburg.

The service at this hotel has been fantastic. After booking the hotel we contacted them for advice about our trip. They couldn’t have done more to assist us. We purchased theme park tickets through them. They helped with planning transport and they upgraded our room booking. From check in to check out we had a great time. Breakfast was good with a great selection

From the beginning to the end very welcoming. We arrived three hours before official time of arrival.... The lady on the desk Rosa greeted us and was extremely welcoming and gave us a good overview of the hotel. The hotel was centrally located for the event that we were attending. The room was comfortable and inviting with soft drinks and water included. There was a good coffee machine, water and tea facilities downstairs for anyone as well as available in your room. I enjoyed the swimming pool and sauna. The breakfast was amazing with freshly squeezed orange juice to greet you with a huge selection of hot and cold foods, everything you would need for breakfast. Thought the cava to mix with orange juice was a nice touch.

This is the only 4 star hotel located in the middle of the town and that's the reason, of from side, a to high price for a Mercure. For the rest no complain everything was fine.

Avoid at all cost

First time in this particular hotel. First the positive. Very comfortable bed, good bathroom. The downside - I didn't want a digital key on my phone. Previous experience elsewhere has seen me having to traipse back to reception very late at night, when unable to get into my room (as indeed happened to a member of my group on this visit to Tilburg). The receptionist was rude to me and talked to me like I was a naughty three-year-old, saying for one time she'd make an exception but not to expect it again. The room was hideously hot and nothing helped cool it down. Further, the hotel is attached to a multi-story carpark with open sides (you access it from the hotel, and look into it from the corridor). There were men talking loudly in the garage ALL NIGHT, till past 3 a.m. I discovered they were working on a car engine. In the morning when I went down to breakfast, the lift floor was covered with abandoned takeaway food - neither of the ladies at reception bothered to do anything after I told them, and only when another guest told the breakfast attendant some time later, did she go to clean it up. For context, I travel a lot for work, this was my 11th night in Tilburg alone in the last few months, and I'm easily satisfied but this was a truly appalling stay.
