Comfortable room and easy access to the areas of Birmingham we needed to walk to - Concert Hall, Library etc. The outstanding part of our 8 day stay was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. In particular, Jomut who initially checked us in, was particularly helpful and obligingly answered all our questions, giving of his time generously. He went out of his way to make our stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible during our weeklong visit. Outstanding service - thank you.Corina too was friendly and helpful. Overall a very enjoyable stay!

If you’re after a 4-star hotel experience, Novotel on Broad Street, Birmingham is not it — unless you’re rating on a scale where sewage smells and mystery carpet stains are perks. Let’s start with the hygiene: objectively terrible. The hotel is dated and feels like it peaked sometime around the early 2000s and has since been slowly crumbling into mediocrity. The second floor in particular smelled like a blend of regret and blocked drains, and yes — that delightful sewage aroma extended into my room too. Nothing says “relaxing stay” like trying to fall asleep with eau de sewage lingering in the air. Now, the carpets deserve their own horror film. In my room and throughout the second floor, they were covered in a constellation of stains — dark, crusty, and in patterns that strongly suggested someone lost a fight with a bottle of vodka and a kebab. You could literally trace the path of a heavy night out from the elevator to various doorways. Honestly, I’ve seen cleaner floors in night buses. And here’s a design choice that will baffle even the most avant-garde architects: the toilet is in a completely separate room from the bathroom, with no sink or water access. So after using the loo, your only option is to fumble your way across the room, bacteria in tow, to wash your hands. Innovative? Maybe. Hygienic? Absolutely not. To be fair, the staff were polite, the bar was decent, and the breakfast buffet was passable — nothing to write home about, but not offensive either. In summary, this is not a 4-star hotel. It’s a place you book if your only priority is stumbling distance from Broad Street clubs and you’re not overly concerned about what you’ll be waking up to — be it the décor or the smell. Think hard. Think twice. Then maybe book somewhere else.

We booked for afternoon tea and what was going to be a special treat turned into the most wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived Julett took such wonderful care of us. Nothing was too much trouble, from crisps for the young people we had with us to making the bride-to-be in our party feel even more special, it was all part of her extraordinary service. Cannot recommend it highly enough and will definitely book again. Awesome.
