Mosquito issue needs addressing

Have just returned from a stay, I have at least 30 but bites and my partner had lots too it really spoiled our stay. Location ok, rooms very basic with not even bedside tables.

mosquitoes ate us alive ! and is this really Styles quality ?

3 stars bordering on 2 - might have been a solid 3 if not for the mosquitos and the price. I confess to not understanding the branding of Ibis properties since the last Styles I stayed in was of a much higher quality than this one, which was barely above the quality of the next Budget we stayed in..... Great location for visiting Bruges - very centrally located and about a 15 minute walk from the train station. Check in was great at the Novotel since we had to redeem points. Staff at both the Novotel and Ibis Styles were helpful. There is a nice coffee machine in the lobby of the Ibis Styles and also a kettle with some packets of instant coffee and tea in the room. I was concerned about the stains and smears on the walls - it appears that they were from mosquitoes that were killed. We killed a couple the first night; in the morning after the second night, we killed almost a dozen. We did not realize they were such a big problem; the clerk said that they did have mosquito repellent available, but we did not know of either the mosquito problem or that repellent was available ! The half wall of glass in the shower did nothing to stop water from flowing into bathroom. The room was waaaaay smaller than the last Styles I stayed in. There were three bins for waste - black, blue and green. We like to recycle, etc at home and are more than happy to do so when traveling, but the other clerk had no guidance for what went into which. And lastly - don't slam the door ! (very easy to do - the door is heavy and will slam loudly if you do not catch it) I have to say we were on the 2nd floor, since some people had below level rooms which sound even worse !

We have stayed at this hotel before when it was Ibis Centrum with a coach company. We haven't stayed here in a while as the hotel was being refurbished. It was always ok, basic but clean & we liked that it was central. We were a bit concerned when we read the recent reviews as some of them were awful. We arrived & kept an open mind, knowing that this is a basic hotel we sort of knew what to expect. To be honest it was more or less the same as before the refurb: rooms are same size, still very basic & very little clothes hanging space/storage.The only main difference is the breakfast & bar facilities which are now situated across the courtyard in the Novotel. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice & even cooked breakfast for those who wanted it. The hotel was clean & was cleaned daily with towels replaced daily too. There were tea & coffee making facilities & a kettle which is a welcome addition. staff were friendly & the hotel benefits from being very centrally located. A few gripes: room colour is dreary so dark we needed the light on all the time. Not many hangers we took over the door hangers to create more space. We would return as it suits us.

No respect for us or costumers

The bed/room was full with bed bugs. And the worse is.... they must have known because i pulled the matras out and the bed base was full with powder. We never got an apology even after I asked to talk to a manager. They treated us like we were nothing. My whole body is aching now from the bites, we had to throw all of our cloths and bags away because we didn't want to bring this bugs home. We didn't sleep for 2 nights. Yes, we could have gone home. I tried, but my husband didn't want to because he still tried to save our weekend so guilty he felt bringing me into this situation. He blamed himself. But who would imagen that you would be sleeping in a bed full with bugs. So I didn't want to make him more depressed so I decided to stay. But who can sleep normally after you have a trauma like this. We went from room 2241 full with bugs to room 2238. They didn't even offered us another floor. And the girl who checks us in said to us that this things can happen. I have no words to describe my feelings now. This is far the worse 2 days of my life. What surprises me the most no one came to us to say sorry or ask us how we were doing. And yet. Every time they would pass us downstairs they would smile to us. I am speechless. I feel cheated, lied to, robbed and traumatized. If anyone would like to see videos of what we went through feel free to contact me. I am not able to post them here.

Regarding the powder you discovered: this was the result of a previous treatment carried out by a certified pest control specialist. At the time, the room had been officially cleared and deemed safe. Sadly, it appears a new issue has since emerged. As a result, the room has been taken out of service and will be thoroughly treated again using heat-based methods to ensure complete eradication. While one of our managers was present over the weekend and did try to connect with you, we acknowledge that our response may not have met your expectations in that moment. For that, we are truly sorry. We understand how important it is to feel heard and supported, especially when something so unpleasant occurs. Please know we take this matter extremely seriously. Guest comfort, health and peace of mind are our highest priorities, and this situation has prompted us to reinforce our internal protocols. Once again, our sincere apologies for what you experienced.
