Unreasonable Child Policy & Poor Customer Service

I had a very disappointing experience with this hotel’s customer service, particularly with Florentina. We booked a room with a double bed and a sofa bed, which was perfectly suitable for our family (two adults, an 8-year-old, and a 4-year-old). However, Florentina insisted that we had to pay an extra €35 for an "upgrade" because they count a 4-year-old as a full extra person. I repeatedly clarified that we did not need an extra bed—we were happy with the existing setup. Yet, she rigidly refused to accommodate us, despite the fact that countless other hotels in Europe allow small children to stay with parents in similar room configurations. When I pointed out that their own booking pictures contradict her claims about the room layout, she dismissed it and told me to cancel if I didn’t agree. The room she wanted us to upgrade to was actually less suitable for us, as the sofa bed was in a separate area from the main bed. The room we originally booked had all beds in the same space, which is why we specifically chose it. This lack of flexibility and customer care is unacceptable. I have stayed in over 100 hotels across Europe, and this is the first time I’ve encountered such an unreasonable policy. If you’re traveling as a family, especially with young children, I’d strongly advise looking elsewhere.

Excellent location and comfortable

I stayed here for five nights over new year and was completely satisfied. I had a corner room on the fifth floor overlooking the shops outside and was never bothered by the noice. the position of the hotel is exceptional with easy access to both the Gare Central and all Brussels attractions. Only two minor quibbles - the room had a small winder and was rather dark, and the eggs and bacon served at breakfast were lukewarm at best.

Great location, great value for money

We stayed at the Novotel as a family for two nights in December, a family room and an Executive Queen. Both rooms were spacious and comfortable for our stay, the setup with the bathroom was a bit strange with the toilet and bathroom separate with a weird layout. The only complaint was when we ordered room service we were waiting for close to an hour and then told we were supposed to pick it up so when we did get our food it was cold, we have never experienced that before. Location was excellent.

5th time’s the charm

My husband and I just stayed at the Novotel Brussels Off Grand Place for the fifth time, and it finally lived up to our expectations. The renovations have finally been completed, and the hotel looks good. Staff is fine, and they graciously allowed us a later checkout on the day of departure. The rooms are spacious, but I still don’t understand the bathroom placement - which literally opens out right onto the bed. This also means that the bathroom light shines directly onto the person sleeping - it’s such a terrible design flaw. That being said, the location of this hotel is excellent, and the reason why we keep staying there. You’re literally a 1-minute walk from Grand Place, and 30 seconds from Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. This hotel is all about location, and we’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Brussels.

We’ve just spent 3 nights at the Novotel. The location of the hotel is fabulous with a very convenient nearby underground parking but that’s it. We have stayed in many Novotels in the past but we never came across such a dirty place. I wish the health department would come check this place. The breakfast buffet it’s a zoo, staff with loose hair, zero grooming and unfriendly. They basically dispose rest of food from guests on paper napkins that guests were using as place mats to clear tables, don’t even clean the tables asides sometimes whipping with a dirty rag. We even witnessed staff members putting their hands inside the milk container of the coffee machine several times without any hygiene. The floor of the restaurant is dirty and sticky from juice, food, etc. The benches were dirty, even the silverware that was supposed to be clean was dirty. Staff have clearly no training and don’t care. The reception staff was also not very nice, they are very happy drinking coffee and eating behind the reception. Zero grooming standards. Even during check out the reception desk was empty as the receptionist on duty was outside smoking and drinking coffee. It’s unreal. Rooms have a great size but are also quite dirty, the bathroom sink was full of slime and hair. What a disgrace for a Novotel. Where are the standards ????
