I returned last night after a 3 night stay on a work trip. Had I paid for this hotel myself I would have walked out and asked for a refund. I'll start with a couple of positives, hence the 2 rating. On entering the hotel it felt like a hostel, cheap furniture but was bright and looked clean. The receptionist on arrival was very welcoming too. I was initially allocated a Sweetroom (an upgrade to what was booked) on the first floor. The first worrying thing was a sign on the corridor wall saying no smoking and no drugs.... On entering the room I was hit with a stale smoke smell. Not what you would expect in a non smoking hotel. I rang reception and they moved me to another room on the second floor. They said someone may have smoked in the room.... The Ibis website states the following about a Sweet Room: Double Sweetroom by Ibis. Featuring the latest colours, premium materials and softer, more cocooning furnishings. What I got was a small, basic tired room which was grubby. The carpet had black marks and looked disgusting. I placed towels on the floor as I hadn't slippers with me and I didn't want to walk with bare feet on this carpet. The bedding was clean but the mattress was thin and uncomfortable. There were no pillow protectors and I didn't check for a mattress protector as I was afraid of what I might find. There was a small area to hang clothes but no drawers and limited shelving. The bathroom was so tiny with towels that were old, discoloured and thin. They were so thin that one started to rip when I was drying myself the next day. The shower was grubby with a filthy fan and holes in the doors and a gap between the door and the wall so you couldn't even rinse the doors without soaking the bathroom. Next comes sleep.... When I did eventually get over to sleep I was woken numerous times by people on the street outside shouting etc. This happened each night so unfortunately I didn't get much sleep. In my opinion that's the most important thing when staying away from home especially when you are also working during the day. I've come home exhausted. Also note that some of the rooms are being refurbished and a few in our group mentioned a strong smell of glue. I'm sorry for the long review but I feel I need to be honest. It was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in and I wasn't alone with this view. It's such a shame as it's a good location for Metro access and some lovely restaurants. Also handy for shopping and the Grand Place if you are in the City on holiday. I won't be back and hope this review will help others decide. I can cope with a small basic room but a grubby room with dirty carpet is not acceptable.

We have parked by mistake in a private parking that was closed at 8:15 without us knowing, we had 3 kids with us and we live in Netherlands , after 1.5 hours of search for a hotel, finally ibis was able to help us and provide us with rooms! Really appreciate the service and their support to secure us rooms in fully booked hotel! Rooms were very clean and nice

Rude staff- very unfriendly!!

Extremely rude staff on arrival. There was no welcome and we were just handed our key cards and told “that’s it”. We had no explanation of how anything works and not even told which floor we were staying on. The room was tiny and had no kettle. However, the bed was big and very comfortable. The walls are thin and you can hear everything that goes on in the surrounding rooms and corridors. On check out, we asked reception if they could order us a taxi- they did not know how much a taxi would be to the station or whether we would be able to pay by card or not (surely something they should be aware of). There was no thank you or goodbye. This was our first time staying in an Ibis and frankly will be our last. Having stayed in many hotel chains around the world, we have never experienced such an unwelcome or been made to feel like a burden. The location was excellent - perfect walking distance to everything. Station was 30 min walk or 15 min in the taxi.

I think it’s the worst Ibis I ever try. Old and basic room. At night it’s not easy to fall asleep as we can hear people screaming and playing around the hotel. Feel unsafe after 4pm, we are follow by a stranger who yell at us and follow us to the hotel( 5pm!!)

Small, basic, tired looking room. No kettle and the shower room was tiny. Depressing, grey view over the other rooms. Very disappointed. On a positive note, reception staff were friendly and helpful. This was my first and last time at an Ibis hotel.
