Very well placed for exploring Bordeaux

This hotel is very well placed for exploring Bordeaux and easily reached by tramway. Rooms are spacious and beds very comfortable - everything you want in a hotel room. Double windows mean that it's also very quiet. The breakfast buffet is excellent with amazing choice.

Average stay - not seeing the value of Novotel

The hotel is located very close to the tram, directly from the airport so is very convenient. On the day of arrival we received an email with instructions on how to get there (including tram, rough taxi costs, etc) which was REALLY helpful. We got to the hotel, and at first we couldn’t see a reception. You enter to the bar and a chill out area. I saw a young woman with a laptop at one of the stand up tables and I didn’t know if she was a guest or reception. Fortunately she was the latter. Uniforms and signage would really help here! The receptionist suggested putting a hold on my card to cover the room costs for the 2 nights plus extra for the bar and restaurant. I agreed, and she pointed out that it was a hold of €500, not a charge. Minutes later I received a text from my credit card - id been charged €500, not a hold. Most annoyingly, at no point ever on using the bar was I ever asked if I wanted to charge to my room. The balance was refunded on check out but it seemed a pointless exercise. We dumped bags and wend to the bar to get a drink before exploring Bordeaux. We had to wait ages for service (around 18:00 on a Friday) and the prices were high! €6 per small beer. We decided not to take another. We went out, and found plenty of restaurants in close distance. We returned around 23:00 thinking to have a nightcap, but the bar was empty and the staff were hoovering. We troubled them for 2 glasses of wine but there was no atmosphere at all and at one point the staff disappeared completely. As we were finishing up a group of 4 arrived, looking around for service (and at the lack of atmosphere). They ended up leaving as nobody came to serve them. The rooms in the hotel are absolutely fine, but lacking in plug sockets. We could only find 2 in the whole room. There are no fridges, only 2 bath towels and toiletries are on the wall. In summary, our stay was fine, but it’s not value for money. It would have been half the price to stay at the Ibis hotel next door for the same level of service. I have stayed in Ibis Budget before and they’re basic but clean. I couldn’t see what extra I was getting by choosing the Novotel.

really good hotel at 10 mins from the city center! great staff, we were welcomed from a really gentle guy with a great english (nit granted in france). the room is pretty huge and comfortable, also the bathroom is ok. the unique thing that we didnt appreciate is that there was no eletrical socket in the bathroom and only 2 in the room. great the hall of the hotel..still a really good experience overall!

Short stay for a champions cup rugby game

I stayed at this hotel for a trip to Bordeaux for a Champions Cup Rugby game. I have previously provided a glowing but unfortunately marked the response down rather than maximum. My mistake and I can say I couldn’t fault our experience. Staff, accommodation, location were all that we could have hoped for. Breakfast was excellent, just what we hoped for. Would definitely recommend.

I enjoyed my stay at this convenient hotel. It is getting a little dated but is still okay and reasonable for the price, although will need some work very soon to maintain the Novotel brand standard. The hotel is easy walking distance to the shopping mall at Meriadeck and only a little further on foot to the main city centre shopping district and historic attractions. The hotel restaurant is good, although it would be great help if the menu was printed with even a little English language guidance - the staff there were helpful with assisting me to find what I liked, except one who said it was in French only and made no effort to offer guidance. Rooms are comfortable and cleaned well every day. I have two comments of constructive feedback for management. Firstly, the mugs provided in the rooms for hot drinks are unable to be used as they do not have handles. Plus, mine had chips in them and need to be thrown out. I had to ask to borrow a mug with handle from the restaurant. What is the point of a mug that can't be used? Secondly, as an Accor Diamond loyalty member it is the usual custom to receive an appropriate welcome amenity at each hotel. Nothing was provided here to recognise this status. This needs some attention in planning at management level. Overall, I am happy with the stay but hope you can consider my suggestions.
