A lottery with the staff, can be ok or just plain awful

This is not a 4 star hotel. The rooms were ok and the location is great. On our arrival we were told at check-in that the restaurant was not open as it was Jan 1. I did see a large group of people dining there however. Perhaps it was staff and I would have understood as it was New Years Day but there was no explanation and reception offered none. We were told that there was no room service either but that there were plenty of options outside. We were tired from travelling and that was disappointing, You should advise guests of this in advance. We were also told that the restaurant would be open on 2 January. On 2 January we went to the restaurant and were totally ignored by staff who were laughing and joking in a room behind reception. I had seen one of those staff members taking a food order from someone else so I asked him if the restaurant was open and he said no. I told him that we had been told that it would be open that day and he just said no it wasn’t not and explained nothing and arrogantly fined me off. January is an ordinary work day. The staff at the restaurant seem to think they can open when they feel like it. The staff member I spoke had seen me waiting before and had ignored me and walked away. There is no consistency and in the case of Montparnase, no management evident. I did a review on the Accor site as requested by them and was not contacted by them and they did not respond on their site. They just don’t care.

Very clean, smelled wonderful (can I buy that spray that was in the lobby?). Staff was wonderful, patiently letting me practice my French, at times. Only complaint, the restaurant was closed except for breakfast but there's so many places to eat within a few feet it was all good. Had to get used to the European showers. Most of us had a few floods.😊 Oh, and very close to the subway, but be prepared for stairs.

This was stop #2 on our EF Go Western European tour. The lobby did not look like a 5-star hotel, but the rooms were impressive. Breakfast was good. Bar was limited on beer, but had a good choice of liquor selections. Rooms were very nice and well-decorated. There is even a free picture machine that you can take photos and leave them on the board or take them with you. The walking distance was okay to other landmarks, such as Hotel des Invalides (Napoleon's Tomb), was about 2 miles. I mention this because finding a taxi or Bolt (Uber) was very hard. We started walking from the tomb and got dropped about half a dozen times before we gave up and began looking for a scooter or bike to rent. When we found one, we could not get it to connect to the internet. We eventually just walked. Oh...and it was almost 100 degrees that day. LOL. Overall, we would stay in this hotel again.

This is not a 4 star hotel. The positives are its location and breakfast was very good. But that’s where it ends The rooms are in need of renovation. The air conditioning didn’t work throughout my 6 night stay. The electricity plug did not work. The WiFi is very slow. I would recommend the area but would find an alternative hotel.
