Stayed 28 December 2025 – 1 January 2026 We stayed at the Novotel Schiedam over the New Year period for leisure and to visit friends in the Rotterdam area. The hotel is conveniently located if you have a car. Without one, there is very little within walking distance, so it’s not ideal if you’re relying on public transport or nearby amenities. On the positive side, the staff were professional, welcoming, and spoke excellent English. Check-in was smooth and efficient. The room was relatively clean on arrival, and the public areas appeared well maintained. We also paid for breakfast, which was a highlight: a well-presented continental spread with a good mix of standard options and Dutch items. The food overall was very good and plentiful. Unfortunately, the housekeeping experience was poor and significantly detracted from the stay. We requested room cleaning twice. On both occasions, housekeeping arrived extremely late in the day, around 4:45 pm, which is an incredibly inconvenient time for guests who are back in their rooms. The first time, they knocked very loudly on the door, we left the room specifically to allow cleaning, and when we returned the job was minimal at best. Cups and towels were changed and there was a light wipe-down, but the bed was not made once during the entire four-night stay, and rubbish was not removed. When housekeeping arrived again the following day at a similar late hour, we declined the service altogether because it was simply too late in the day. This is not how most hotels operate and was frustrating. Another issue was noise. The rooms are extremely thin-walled, and noise carries easily. There appeared to be a large group of long-stay guests with children, who were running up and down corridors, creating significant disturbance. I raised this with staff after the first night and was told it would be addressed, but there was no noticeable improvement. There was very little consideration for other guests, which was disappointing, particularly given that we were paying full price and staying with a well-known international hotel brand. In summary, the hotel has some strengths—friendly staff, good food, and a convenient location if driving—but the late and ineffective housekeeping, combined with noise issues, mean it did not meet expectations for a Novotel. On a positive note, Rotterdam itself is a fantastic city to visit, and we were very well looked after by our local host. Sadly, the hotel experience didn’t quite live up to the destination

We stayed for one night in September as family of three adults in two rooms. Superior and standard ones. Our superior room was missing second bathrobe and slippers so I had to chase it and it promptly arrived. Welcome drink was not in the All app, had to chase paper version as it was not offered. Minibar had some complimentary soft drinks and we could also pick up water bottle from reception. When I was washing my hair under the shower I realised that Rituals bottle with conditioner was empty! I was getting ready for an event so that was really annoying! Then when I wanted to use body lotion, this has run out too! These housekeeping issues prevented me from giving this hotel rare five stars. Because it was great value, clean and comfortable. We were with the car so getting there was not an issue. Parking is with the barrier and they give you exit ticket so you can leave and come back as you please but I agree that if you don’t have own transport staying here is not that convenient. Shopping centre with large Hema is 10 min drive away. It is good option if you drive to Rotterdam or to fantastic Dutch countryside nearby. Room overlooking swimming pool was really quiet at night. I would stay again if they maintain the value and first thing would be to check if Rituals bottles are full to avoid nasty surprises.

Upon literally just entering the drop-off area of the hotel we were welcomed by rats scurrying across the garden patches. UNBELIEVABLE! This was not what I expecting to the start of our stay in Netherlands. Reception area looked clean and decent. We were provided our room 420 which a tight family room but functional. The carpet area is in need of attention in the lobby areas. There is a pool at this hotel with a nice terrace area. We didn’t have breakfast included with our stay so cannot comment but the restaurant closes at 10pm and I scouted over the menu and was decent priced compared to rest of Rotterdam. We arrived quite late so had to go out to get our late night dinner. The hotel is quite far if walking to shops but by car within 6 mins you would be next to food places etc. The metro is about 10 mins walk. On the first day I had asked for some fresh towels but these were all stained with brown stuff ‘puke’!!! What made up for this hotel are the exceptional front desk reception staff! They were warm and friendly particularly the night staff member who was super kind especially to my children.

Could be so much better

Stayed here for 2 nights after travelling over on the ferry.We used the metro from the port, and whilst the hotel is situated within 10 minutes walk of the station it was not easy to find and almost inaccessible to pedestrians. The hotel looked decent upon first viewing, and the reception was good and staff friendly enough,but on checking in you were faced with walking down corridors where the carpets were covered in all kinds of stains,Not really a good first impression. The rooms were quite large and very comfortable, but we had an issue with the bathroom where the shower head could not be raised more than 3 foot and there was no cold water supply to the mixer tap feeding the shower. I found this incredibly dangerous as it could have easily resulted in scalding.When reporting the problem to reception we were told that there was nothing they could do about it as maintenance don’t work on Sunday, but if we wanted to borrow some tools we could see if we could fix it ourselves! Food in the restaurant was ok though quite overpriced,but as there isn’t much around the hotel you are really a captive audience.Restaurant staff seemed to be quite young and were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving customers.Some of the breakfast staff have a horrendous attitude and really are in need of some hospitality training.Whilst the hotel is in a fairly good location it really is looking quite shabby and is certainly in need of some TLC. I am not sure if I would stay here again.
