Food so dreadful it’s hard to believe we are in France

Children’s meal ordered with rice. Served with cold chips instead - reminded waitress that we had ordered with rice - which was duly delivered but inedible. Cold - soggy exterior yet hard inside decorated with grey coloured peas. Sent back but no replacement ever delivered. Adult’s meal served firstly as large bowl of cold badly cooked frites delivered with starter? Sent back as I wanted hot frites with my duck breast not cold frites as a starter. Child had a dessert of chocolate fondant - verdict was tastes nice but not a fondant as had an over cooked centre. 55 minutes later told them not to bother with the duck that still hadn’t arrived. 5 minutes later the cancelled duck turned up as we were getting up to leave and was send back. Bill presented with duck main dish still on it but was removed when I pointed out it had been sent back as it took too long. Only a few tables were occupied - seems like the other guests already knew what we found out .. or maybe the chef had a night off? My advice - take the tram from just outside and go into Bordeaux to find a decent meal.

Decent facilities out of town with excellent link to trans services to centre every 20 mins in 20 mins. Good parking.

Nice rooms, dog friendly, good facilities and EV charging with Tesla charging not too far away as well. Nice bar and restaurant with pool. Close to the lakes and Expo Stade. Let down by shocking scrambled eggs (must be powdered but the breakfast is not worth €19/ea.

Fell in the Shower - injured knee and ankle - Hotel showed no concern at all.

We stayed for 2 nights and specifically choose the hotel as it was only a 20 minute tram ride into Bordeaux centre, so would not have to use the car. Not a great choice, very expensive for a so called 4 * hotel, really would rate it at a 3* at best. Air con did not work, so had to to get engineer to mend it. Water did not turn off after flushing, so engineer had to fix that and fridge kept on blinking whole night long so had to put towel over it, engineer said it was shorting and could do nothing. Towels very thin!! Food ok but not a great choice, drinks were very expensive, breakfast not up to a 4* hotel standard. I fell in the shower on the 1st morning, the tiles were like ice when wet, with no non slip mat or strips, nothing to hold on to, so very dangerous. Meant I could not walk due to the injury to my knee and ankle, so our plan to tour Bordeaux was ruined. I could not even walk to my car without great pain, let alone the tram stop (about 250 meters away) When I reported to the hotel about fall and injury they could not care less. Totally indifferent to my pain and distress. Their only advice was to put a towel down in the shower!!!!! They did not offer to get a Dr, take me to A & E or anything, almost as if they ignored me - the injury would go away!! Would not use this hotel, would not recommend it and if anyone is disabled in any way - avoid at all costs.

We regret if these initial gestures did not fully reflect the seriousness of the situation as you perceived it. If you are on a small budget and do not expect high standards then this hotel is for you. It is about a 20 minute tram ride from the centre, obviously in a not so nice area as it is surrounded by a metal fence and gate you need a code for! The first room we were given stank of stale smoke so we’re given another family room, luckily overlooking the huge lake opposite. The breakfast at €18 was not worth it, small selection, no Earl grey tea. The room does not have proper cups and spoons, instead paper cups and sticks! The cups may biodegradable but surely proper cups/mugs are more cost/environmentally friendly!! Plus, I would like my hot drink in a proper cup, not one I can burn my hand on when holding or when it leaks! Lovely chair and desk but then the socket is nowhere near the mirror so difficult to dry hair! Not sure why hotels can’t design hotel rooms more efficiently. The pool is very small and non descriptive so didn’t use it. The gym was tiny, one treadmill, so my husband decided to run around the lovely lake but was met by many homeless people under the bridge and did not feel comfortable so turned back. The staff were friendly and helpful and a very nice lady on the bar made a fabulous hot chocolate! So it’s not all negative. Family rooms consist of a large bed and sofa beds (double with a gap or single). Also if you’re English, no English channels on the TV, not that you go on holiday to watch TV but one would be nice to have on in the room! Plus, wasn’t impressed with the early fire alarm testing on Monday with no prior warning! All other guests on same floor were not aware either so there was a slight panic/confusion!

We have very mixed feelings after our visit to Novotel Bordeaux Lac. We arrived in the hotel but our rooms were not ready. Kind of them to give us 2 free drinks between 7 guests whilst we waited. When we got in to our rooms, we were delighted with the balloons, cakes and birthday banner that the staff had put in the room for our son’s 10th birthday! Thank you! The room was clean and cosy. We went for a swim in the pool which was refreshing on a hot day. The children enjoyed the table tennis too. We enjoyed a late lunch - cheese and meat boards with frites. Yummy. The drinks were lovely too. We booked a table in the restaurant which was a bit of a mistake. It had the potential to be great but wasn’t. The children all had the kid’s menu - chips or veg. One child got the wrong meal but we bought another as it may have been a language misunderstanding. There weren’t many vegetarian options on the menu and as my meal didn’t ever arrive, I can’t tell you if it was good. Some of the food was very late arriving. One adult had finished his meal before his chips arrived for example. The hotel was very busy because of the football so perhaps that was why. The staff were lovely. Very friendly and smiley. The room was comfortable and the breakfast (e18 per person) was great. There was no rush which we enjoyed. A quick check-out and filled our bottles with sparkling & still water which is available freely, which was a nice touch
