I want to share my honest review as frequent traveller. I usually stay around 60 nights a year in Accor hotels, mainly Mercure or Novotel. As a business traveler, I typically go to the supermarket in the evening, buy a salad, and eat in my room. At this hotel, I had the strangest experience I've had in a long time. I politely asked for cutlery and was told that they no longer lend guests metal cutlery. Guests are expected to purchase wooden cutlery. I tried to explain calmly that with 60 days of business travel per year, I wasn't going to start eating with wooden cutlery and that I've always eaten in my room for the past 15 years. I was told that too many guests had simply taken the cutlery. I suggested they could then charge a €100 deposit to my room for the cutlery, but they didn't agree to that either. After a 15-minute friendly discussion, I finally received a knife and fork with the advice that I should please bring my own cutlery next time. I tried to explain that I can't bring a knife in my hand luggage from Berlin and don't want to eat with wooden cutlery several days a week. I also tried to explain that this policy might make sense for leisure travelers, encouraging them to eat in the restaurant. However, when I'm on a business trip, I certainly won't be eating in the hotel restaurant every evening for cost reasons. This policy is counterproductive, as business travelers will then choose other hotels. As I said, I've been staying at Mercure hotels worldwide for 15 years, and this is the first hotel that wants to implement this policy. + Newly renovated room - No fitness area, and the swimming pool has been permanently closed. I don't recommend this hotel for business travelers. For leisure travelers who want to visit Mönchengladbach's city park, this hotel is well located.

Stayed 110825 to 170825, visiting for Euro Hockey with my son. Good location, near a park and 10 minute walk from town and railway station. Friendly and very efficient staff. Clean hotel and good breakfast area. Although some work going on, it was not noisy at all. Certainly a good hotel in a central location. Would recommend.

Facilities were a bit dated but clean and otherwise fine. Coffee in the room was just atrocious but the coffee at breakfast was fine. Staff in the restaurant a bit unfriendly. But the room was clean, spacious, had a good bed, and met all other requirements. The hotel offers free parking behind their own car park but this was full so we had to pay €15 for the night.

Business trip, thank God!

Stayed here for business. The room and hotel was pleasant. The customer service was poor though. Just asked for plain English breakfast tea and milk at reception and there was none available. Breakfast and dinner service were good, but the bar hours were very limited.

Stood waiting to check in. One man on. phone the other doing something. No one acknowledged our presence. Approached one who said "my colleague" Colleague 2 was on phone. No looking up, no signal.Eventually got checked in. No welcome to Mercure, no check-in nicety not even direction to elevator which we found after we got lost and had to return to ask. 0 marks for checkin. Breakfast was copious and excellent. The servers friendly and helpful. they get full rating. Checkin needs some work!
