Sadly a bad experience in mercure one day after a great one in Würzburg. Poor service at check-in, was told executive room at 180 eur had an issue with the air con. Temperature on 30 August was over 30 degrees. Asked for another room, just to be told no other room was available. Wonder if this is the penalty Accor platinum members have to pay to stay in this hotel… And t didn’t end there. I was asked repeatedly to tell them at what time I would have breakfast!! I kept repeating I did not know yet how long I would be sleeping as I was still suffering from jet lag. When asking what discount they would provide for the lack of air con, the staff remained silent and smiled. No compensation seems to be the rule in this hotel, not the customer is King but the owner. Sorry guys but I am used to better and won’t come back here. Claim was sent to Accor group

Mr. Jürgen Axel and his staff are always very accommodating. We had guests for the parade on Rose Monday. They brought some comfortable chairs for our balcony. Mr. Axel reserves our balcony room a year in advance so sadly, you probably won’t get one.

Built in the optimistic, forward-looking climate of 1950s as the Hotel Europa this Mercure chain hotel has been recently refurbished in a style which reflects its original mid-century character. Many original features (such as the main staircase with its 50s graphic decoration) have been maintained, and the rooms equipped with appropriate but modern furniture and decor. Very clean, well-run hotel. Our only real gripe was the lack of much storage space. The tiny wardrobe was half-filled by a minibar and a safe, leaving very little space for the contents of our (small) suitcases. It’s an easy walk from the station, and the streets behind the hotel have some nice neighbourhood restaurants.

Great location in beautiful city of Mainz

Got upgraded as frequent Accor Hotel user. Privilege room is very nice, overlooking a small park, quiet neighbourhood, queen bed, tremendous shower, & good lighting. 2 blocks from main train station in Mainz, which is a beautiful city. Nice towels & bedding as well as soap, lotion, shampoo & conditioner dispensers. Room is reasonably quiet but with a little bit of traffic noise when windows open. Gift of 2 free drinks on check-in for my wife & I, which was a very nice touch. Also in easy walking distance of old town & many museums & cathedrals - many of which are pedestrian only streets also filled restaurants, bars & shops. Downside - only 1 English TV station (France 24) despite listing BBC, CNN, etc that actually have no signal. TV is small (much smaller & fewer stations than Mercure in Frankfurt). Advised safe not working on Saturday check-in at 3 PM, but never fixed before we left on Tuesday (although Monday was holiday). No light at inside front door. Coffee cups are too tall to fit under Krups machine & no milk (even powdered). Fridge is truly tiny & doesn’t keep anything cold. Small bar & restaurant only open for breakfast (€20 each). Location great, room nice & staff friendly so would stay again despite disappointments.

Solid choice, excellent location

I arrived at the hotel at 12:30 pm, and had sent an email in advance to let them know I will be arriving before official check-in time. My email was literally answered within minutes, and I was happy to find out that they had a room ready for me when I got to the hotel. The reception was busy, so I had to wait for a while as one party was checking in and another checking out, but when it became my turn, the friendly receptionist had me checked in within minutes. My room on the second floor was very nice for a three star hotel, and I might even go as far as to say that the room met four star standards. It was probably recently renovated, as it felt very fresh and modern and was in impeccable condition. It was not very large, but came with a balcony and a view of the park outside the hotel. There was a desk&chair, a closet, a safe and good A/C, but no water bottle, no fridge and no sitting area. Wifi was easy to use and fast, however, I believe Youtube was banned, because all other websites worked fine but I was not able to access Youtube at all. That felt a bit strange. The queen bed, although too soft for my taste, was otherwise fine for one person although the pillow was flimsy and I had to request another one, which was gladly brought up to my room. There were sockets by the bed, so charging your devices overnight was easy. The bathroom was also clean and fresh and felt recently renovated. The walk-in shower came with excellent water pressure. There was enough room for toiletries etc by the sink, however the bath towel was extremely small. Amenities only included soap, shampoo and shower gel. No conditioner or body lotion. These came in wall-mounted containers, of which I am not a fan because I don’t find them particularly hygienic. I wish hotels saved money in other ways and not by abandoning single-use toiletries. The hotel serves breakfast in the ground floor breakfast room from 6:30 to 10:30, and from 7 to 12 on weekends. My rate did not include breakfast, but I popped in the first morning to see the spread. It was definitely not worth the price (20.50 EUR), so my suggestioon would be to buy something at the supermarket a block away or to have breakfast in a nearby café. I had a late flight out, and was informed that they could extend my check-out until 12:30 pm at no charge, and beyond that they offered a late check-out at 4 pm for 19 EUR. It was a bargain and I was happy to take up on the offer. The hotel is located two minutes from the main railway station, and I walked to all the sights and restaurants in the city centre area. The Markt and Dom (cathedral) is about a 15 min walk from the hotel. I found the location excellent and will be sure to stay here again if my travels take me to Mainz in the future.
