Surprise, This Hotel costs $103 more each night than Confirmed

I have stayed in this hotel off and on for 50 years. Since it is not run by the government anymore and Foxwoods got involved is a jewel on the island. But, for a few disturbing things. When i pulled the bill, I noticed that the taxes were very high. Island tax is only 11%, but hidden in this "TAX" is a $103 "Resort Fee". When I raised the issue, I was given a list of what I get. It was for a bunch of discounts that the providers don't know about and other unused or unwanted items, certainly not worth the over $800 dollars that it cost during our stay. NO ONE PAYS A ROOM RATE THAT IS CONFIRMED. My wife made an appointment with the hair salon in hotel. They quoted $52 for the set and $20 for the wash. While doing her hair, the operator held up different bottles and my wife said clearly, that she doesn't know Spanish. The bill at the end was $136 and it took the intervention of the Hotel for bring it down to $103. The manager of the salon went into the "NO COMPRENDE" act, but I understand Spanish. She claimed that it was $52 and up. When they quoted the price they forgot "and up". $52 is for a woman who is almost bald. The Il Solo Italian Tratorria, serves almost NY Pizza and good food as well. Service is excellent. Which brings me to the Meat Market. It is a restaurant without any management. Waiters wander around aimlessly and talking to one is like talking to the table. When they served the main course after one hour, i asked 4 waiters for a spoon for over 15 minutes-finally I got it myself. The food was RANK-lacking in every way. The steak came from a racetrack, the sides were $17 and pathetic. You can eat better in the MiniBar and for less than $200 without drinks.

Fantastic Stay for a Family Vacation

We switched to this hotel last minute because we were staying at El Conquistador and it was a terrible experience. My friend recommended the Fairmont and we switched that day and the switch absolutely made our vacation. From the second we stepped out of the taxi until the minute we left every single staff person was so nice and accommodating and kind to our 3 year old daughter. So many of the staff called us familia and I felt that way staying there. The food was great, the pool and activities were so fun, the room was nice and big, the location was great, the nighttime entertainment and live music was fun. It was top to bottom a fantastic experience and we came home ready to book again based solely on our stay here. It was a great place for a family trip and I would highly recommend it to anyone I know.

We stayed at this hotel at the end of our Caribbean trip, and it was a great way to finish our vacation. The resort is elegant, lively, and fun, yet still relaxing. We enjoyed the restaurants, shops, pools, and beach. There are some mixed reviews, but we were very pleased and would not hesitate to return.

Thank you for being our guest and for taking the time to share your delightful review. We are thrilled our wonderful amenities helped you have such a great visit. Please come see us again on future trips to the area.

Beautiful hotel & location, self-parking is horrible! Restaurants underwhelming.

Pros: beautiful hotel & location, friendly staff Cons: Horrible self-parking process/procedure. Restaurants overpriced/underwhelming Bottom line is- we’ve stayed here twice. Next time we will stay somewhere else. Drinks at hotel are double the cost of EVERY establishment close by.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your recent trip. Our goal is to provide every guest with a wonderful experience, and we're disappointed to learn that wasn't the case for you. We offer our sincere apologies if the service you received at the parking and restaurants was anything short of exceptional.

San Juan Fairmont/Yvonne R why did you move my review if you listed the amenities and indicated you would follow-up on trip advisor when you replied to the original review last week? $200 for a regular mani/pedi @ the Fairmont San Juan nail salon downstairs in front of Starbucks. NO gel/no fills and lumpy. I am writing this as a nudge so before you fly out to SJU or if you need a mani or pedi have your nail services done @ HOME or elsewhere. Unfortunately, I dismissed the multiple red flags when I read over the nail menu and it had black sharpie scratches all over the nail prices. Or when I asked about the nail salon and no one had direct contact information for the salon. For a $100 regular pedi yes $100, no callus removal or hot stones, no massage. Oh yes a powdery substance was poured out of a plastic envelope in the lukewarm water. Nothing custom no gel I repeat. The mani was $55.00 nothing custom, no gel, no extra massage and before my nails dried a bit more nail dry spray was used and it caused lumpiness. Ahh over $200 on a lumpy mani/pedi. Oh before I forget if you would like genuine service and a gorgeous view head upstairs to the 10th floor for a Alpine Deep tissue massage with Jose was so awesome and ironically less than my mani/pedi! Do better San Juan Fairmont!
