Theft during spa service — hotel refused responsibility

I stayed at Naama Bay Promenade Hotel and had a very negative experience. During a massage session at the spa located inside the hotel, $100 disappeared from my wallet. The massage therapist was alone with me in the room, and at one point I was covered with a towel for several minutes and could not see what was happening. I noticed the missing money later and immediately reported it to the hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel administration said they could not help because the spa “does not belong to the hotel”, even though it operates on hotel territory and serves hotel guests. No compensation was offered. I was told it was “my fault” and that I should have been more careful. I find this unacceptable. Guest safety should be a priority, and hotels must take responsibility for services provided on their premises. Be very careful if you use the spa services in this hotel. I would not recommend it.

I stayed on the “mountain” side over New Year’s Eve. It’s clear that the property is in need of renovation. However, everything works, and above all (which is the real point of this review) a word must be said about the staff. I worked in Sharm for several years in the past, and I know Egyptian hospitality standards from the inside — both the good and the bad. I can honestly say that I did not encounter a single person at the Naama Bay Promenade “Mountain” who was anything less than kind and smiling. We can truly speak of commitment, of a sense of mission. Whatever structural shortcomings the hotel may have are more than compensated for by the staff. Exceptional, every single one of them. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and to the F&B management in particular for the “pharaonic” New Year’s Eve buffet, and special thanks to Mr Waleed and Mr Mohammed at the Front Office: they were SUPERB. If I may allow myself one small remark: I did notice a bit of condescension toward us “across the way” when entering the “beach” side (with the exception of the Front Desk staff there, who were always kind). And considering that we initially wanted to pay an extra to stay on that side, it’s a reminder that one shouldn’t always judge someone’s wallet. In the end, though, we had a wonderful stay at “El Gabel”

poor customer care

n.b this review is for the mountain side section of the resort hotel, the beach side section is excellent. The welcome we received on arrival was appaling. Had to lift my own case onto security scanner belt, as staff watching couldnt be bothered. We checked in and were told we could use the restaurant straight away We went to our room left our luggage and went to dine . We had our first course, then were approached by restaurant staff saying we had to pay for our meal. I said this wasnt a problem as we had booked room only. WE started to eat our main course and were then surrounded by 3x staff and restaurant manager demanding we pay immeadiatly. I siad i would have to go to my room to get money, which I did. We were then presented with a bill for $64 . The booking website clearly stated total cost of evening meal and breakfast was $34. So I objected to this and asked to see the hotel manager. I had to go up to main reception, were the manager explained these were not the "proper" prices due to "plus plus". I asked how on earth the price could be double that advertised, he replied government taxes. I disagreed that taxes could double the price and in any case the website had cleary advertised a fixed price. Eventually we agreed on a compramise. I then returned to the dining area to get my desert. I then had my dish removed whilst my spoon was in mid air "restaurant closed now" said waiter. Absolute disgrace and totally unacceptable way to treat guests. Thankfully the day after we were moving to the beach side of the complex
