Perfect location for exploring the city. The exemplary service of Tom the engineer is the reason for 5 stars. He came up immediately to check my TV which didn’t display, assessed the problem,and brought up a new TV which had arrived the day before. He was friendly, efficient, and professional—-outstanding service. My only criticism—-the dark, dreary hallways (at least on 11th floor).

Let me preface by saying that I have stayed in this hotel on multiple occasions both in its current form, and and formerly as The James. This experience was by and far my worst experience with it. Traveling in from out of town by train I always arrive quite early and will stop by the hotel to drop my bags off and to see if early check-in is available. By chance, this was the first time that early check-in was not available and was told that I could register and they would call me when the room was available. Nearly 4 hours later when I had not heard back I stopped by the hotel to check and was told that no one had taken any info and because of that I still did not have a room. I was upset by this as they had taken my number, and my payment info, but, still had "forgotten" about me. I was assured that a room would be ready in about 30 minutes and that I would receive a call. Nearly an hour had passed when I once again returned to check and was informed by the front desk that she had forgotten. On the 2nd night of our stay we were kept awake most of the night by people running up and down the hall ways, screaming looking for "the party." We have always booked this hotel, and have told many people about it because of the quality of stay we had and the closeness of the hotel to many things... I fear this may have been the last time.

The room was well designed, comfortable and while modest reasonably well equipped. Staff was accommodating, but could possible keep up with the demands.

Attended a training meeting at your hotel. Room nice and clean. Did not like or understand the coffee maker so that made me grumpy in the AM. YOu need a refrig in room vs the min bar, useless.

There was an electrical issue in my room, which the maintenance director graciously remedied, in a timely fashion. The front desk staff was not pleasant, friendly or helpful. While the food was good and the staff there wonderful, there were very limited choices. Four in our group had seafood allergies and there was seafood in most of the meals offered. We also had a few with both dairy and gluten allergies and these conditions were also difficult for your team to accommodate.

We love 21c and this was our fourth one. We used to live in Chicago. Great location and we enjoyed the art. Our TV was broken and you attended to it quickly. Only downside was the deterioration in Chicago itself. Couldn’t sleep for the noise of drag racing and engines revving all night. Not your fault but never would have thought the crime would have come to Michigan avenue.

This was the noisiest hotel room I have ever experienced. Our room was on the 7th floor. It was as if the street noise was coming from inside the room. I am not a light sleeper but the noise was so bad it prevented me from sleeping until the early hours of the morning. Terrible choice of windows.

I was told when I checked in that if there was anything I needed just to ask. I needed a shower cap. You had none. The shower had a shelf that angled backward putting water all over the floor.I had to ask 3 times over two days to get extra towels.

Mediocre service & hidden fees

I was not pleased with my experience here. There was limited room service, which is understandable at the moment, but necessary items (like toilet paper, tissues, towels, etc.) are not readily available. If there's not going to be daily room service, there should be a streamlined way to request and receive these items as needed. Room service only came once during my week long stay, which meant that I had to ask for things at the front desk, and there was not consistent availability of simple items like toilet paper. Moreover, after receiving my bill, I found that a hidden, so-called "urban experience fee" had been added to each day of my stay. At $20/day, this fee did not cover any actual service that I received, and it was just a way for the hotel to squeeze more money out of me. This was not a pleasant discovery to make at the end of my trip. The hotel looks nice, and it is in a good location. It is unfortunate that these facts cannot make up for the disappointing experience that I had while staying there.

Great location, thin walls

We stayed here just for one night. The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the front desk staff was really nice and friendly. The biggest issue we had was how noisy it was - not the city noise (plenty of that but not the hotel’s fault), but where our room was located (3rd floor by the elevator) we could hear every single person walking by, every time the elevator made a ding sound, and the rumbling of the elevator doors. Doesn’t seem like there was any effort to reduce sound for people in the rooms. Since we were staying for only one night we didn’t make a fuss about it but if I were to stay again I would try to request a room away from the elevators. If they couldn’t accommodate (which I understand, maybe it’s a weird request) I may consider a different hotel. It was really just so loud! I also have a gut feeling that booking through a travel website always gets you the worst room, so maybe it’s my fault for using those! But I like to end on a positive note: it’s a really pretty hotel on the inside, the art gallery is a cute touch, and the mattress/bedding was really cozy.

Chic hotel in Chicago

Hotel is chic and clean. Booked using All points as partial payment but full amount was kept on hold at check in. Good thing I inquired at check out and was corrected then. Will probably stay closer to the river where nice bars and restaurants are next time around.
