Lovely comfy beds. Clean & spacious rooms. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Food is good, especially the buffet breakfast. Great experience, will be recommending to family and friends. Perfect location for the rugby stadium. Will definitely stay again.

Myself and friends had an amazing time at the Jersey Boys Live on the 18th May. The function room looked great. The meal was absolutely delicious. The Jersey Boys had fantastic voices and had everyone up dancing. Special thanks to Jodie, who gave us a very warm welcome. A brilliant night, we will return!

Blamed for their error

First of all I booked the gym. I asked what time the last entry was and told it was 5pm. I happily took this. On arrival I was told that it closed at 5.30. That information would have been much more helpful at the time of booking. I ordered room service for dinner. After waiting nearly an hour I rang to see where it was. I was told that someone had been up twice and the lady in the room had sent them away. I told them they must have delivered to the wrong room as I had not answered the door. The lady told me she could prove it as she had cctv. This was never forthcoming. I asked her to describe who had answered the door and she said she didn't need to describe them as it was me! When pushed the description was not even close to how I look. She refused to deliver the food as they were too busy and I had missed opportunity. I spoke to the manager to make a complaint. He took the same stance as the lady in the restaurant, that two attempts to deliver had been made. No apology, no consideration that they might have made a mistake. I persuaded them to deliver and to make sure, I met them at the lift. I felt completely dismissed by the manager. He walked me down the corridor, reading out the room numbers as he went and seemed quite surprised when he got to my room. I asked where they had delivered to. He told me not to worry that I had my dinner now and I should just let it go. I asked was the delivery fee included and it was. At that point I was so cross I said I had expected ilthe cost to be waived, given the problems I had. He said no and that he would take the food away. At this point I didn't care. In the end I did have the meal and wasn't charged. To be clear I gave the correct room number, there was no error on my part. However, there was no apology. I was gaslighted and dismissed. There was no ownership or accountability in terms of the error that had been made. Things go wrong and had this been dealt with in a professional and couteous manner this review would have been very different. I was a regular visitor to this hotel, this will be my last stay. There are other options nearby.

Having read some of the comments below I reluctantly booked a room at this Mercure for the weekend not knowing what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised as everything went well and we had a very good experience overall. The pre-arrival communication with the reception was swift and polite. The hotel is located in a commercial area of St. Helen's close to restaurants and shopping centres and restaurants. Parking in front of the hotel was straightforward. You need to register your car in a special tablet by the entrance (as well as in check-in). The check-in process was quick and the front desk agent gave us all the information we needed about the hotel and the fitness club. The room was specious and clean and just as we requested. Everything was functional, lighting, hot water in the shower, TV. There was also an ironing board available. The breakfast the next day was fine and reasonably priced with a continental buffet available and then ordering eggs and stuff as you like. The service was professional from check-in to check-out. We could not ask for more! If in the area again, we will most certainly come back to this hotel.

Achtung Parkplatzfalle

Das Hotel wäre mit der Bewertung Mangelhaft schon gut bedient. Aber abgesehen davon ist der Parkplatz eine Falle. Man muss das Fahrzeug an einem Automaten registrieren, bekommt aber kein Ticket. Tritt ein Fehler auf, den man ohne Ticket nicht erkennen kann bekommt man eine Anzeige wegen Falschparken. Da ich ein Gast war und alle Belege habe, sah ich darin kein Problem. Allerdings hat die Tatsache, dass ich ein Gast war, weder das Hotel noch die Parkplatzüberwachungsfirma interessiert und es wurden trotz der Belege alle Berufungen abgewiesen, was bedeutet, dass ich nun eine Strafe im Wert von GBP 100,- bezahlen darf. Vielen Dank für das gute Service.

I regret to hear that you have received a parking fine it appears that you missed to follow the signs in the parking and in the Hotel Lobby. Our Car Park is managed by a third party - Parking Eye, the terms and conditions are outlined on over 14 parking signs in the car park, the sign as you enter the car park and also the pull up banner located onsite the hotel reception. If you contact our reception team a member of the team would be more than willing to assist you with the appeal, however I must remind you that it is the responsibility of the driver to register their vehicle and to adhere to the guidelines of the car park chosen.
