Kuredhivaru Resort & Spa Maldives 5 stars

We had a great time at Kuredhivaru, the staff was at all times really friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and the spa treatments were also wonderful. We loved our room, the glass bottom and the open shower and toilet were really nice to see fish and other sea life from our room. The live music at dinner time gave a perfect atmosphere every night. The chocolate hour was also very nice. The two things that disappointed us were the size of the house reef and the size of the pool of our water villa. Even thought the house reef has a great amount and variety of sea life, it is pretty small. For us staying for over 10 days it is important that we can snorkel for many hours a day, we did it any way but going back and forward because in less than half an hour you have gone through all the snorkelling area. The pool of the water villa is also pretty small, to be fair, it is mentioned that is a plunge pool but in the pictures and videos it did not look that small. The night snorkeling excursion was very good, we completely recommend it.

I was generally satisfied with the accommodation and food at the hotel. The TV in my room was broken on check-in day, but I didn’t watch TV during my stay, so I didn’t verify whether they fixed it in the end. I was quite satisfied with my accommodation and meals at the hotel overall. However, I had concerns regarding the billing breakdown. When I raised my questions to the staff, they only kept explaining their internal policies instead of truly understanding and resolving my confusion. To start with, my experience dining at Onu Bar was unpleasant. We occupied two separate rooms and had different set packages. Corona beer was an extra charge regardless of which package guests chose. Due to the staff’s negligence, they charged the beer to the other room’s folio. Instead of contacting us once they spotted the mistake, they altered the room number on the other guest’s signed bill without our knowledge and transferred the charge to our room. I was extremely upset about this unauthorized transfer of fees without my consent. Fortunately, the Onu Bar manager later offered a reasonable resolution that I accepted. Trouble arose again on my final settlement day when I went to pay all island expenses. My villa steward called his supervisor over, whose attitude left me extremely dissatisfied. Earlier, I’d confirmed with the steward whether upgrading my 30-minute SPA session to 60 minutes would cost an extra USD 80, or just a USD 60 surcharge on top of the USD 120 full 60-minute package. The steward assured me the cheaper surcharge was applicable. But when I checked out, I was told the flat USD 80 upgrade fee applied no matter what. I pointed out the steward had given me incorrect information and asked what compensation they could offer for the miscommunication. That was when the supervisor stepped in. Instead of addressing the SPA pricing confusion, he suddenly claimed I had 16 unpaid beers from my bar visit two nights prior. I challenged him to pull the CCTV footage to verify this accusation, yet he claimed there were no cameras at the bar—even though surveillance cameras were clearly visible there. It felt like he was lying outright. He then summoned the bar manager, with whom I’d already settled the earlier billing issue amicably days before. I told them the bar matter was fully resolved and I only wanted clarification on the SPA charge, yet they kept circling back to the beer dispute and refused to listen to my actual concern. Eventually, the supervisor simply brushed me off by saying I had signed the SPA charge slip and therefore had to pay in full. This remark frustrated me greatly. I responded that if a guest’s signature alone obligated payment, I could not accept the unauthorized bar charge moved to my folio without my signature or consent. We reached an impasse until the front desk cashier mediated and helped reach a settlement. In my opinion, the steward’s supervisor is completely incompetent as a manager, and his handling of the entire situation ruined my stay completely. I also left my contact information with the bar staff. I’ve now heard that your company is making the bar employee cover the bill for my drinks on day three. You can check my records — I fully paid that bill of over 110 US dollars on day three. So why are you still forcing the staff to pay for this amount? This effectively amounts to double-charging. I don’t know if this unfair practice was instigated by that villa supervisor or is standard company policy. If this is how your establishment operates, my overall experience has been absolutely terrible. The bar manager consistently comforted me and my companions throughout the issue, patiently working to resolve all our troubles. In stark contrast, the villa supervisor only talked about his own rules and what he wanted without any willingness to compromise. His comment that “if you signed the slip, you have to pay” was absurd logic. Does that mean charges without my signature can be disregarded entirely? The bar tab was altered by your staff without my signature or consent, yet you tried to hold me liable for it. This is not a proper problem-solving attitude at all. It felt as if, because I am a foreign visitor, your local team thought they could take advantage of me, or that Chinese guests are easy to overcharge. At the height of our argument, he even threatened to call the police. I have no issue with that — I am fully prepared to contact my embassy, or share the full truthful account of my terrible trip experience on social media for everyone to see. It is completely unreasonable for you to penalize the bar employee, who actively safeguarded your hotel’s reputation and went out of his way to deliver a pleasant experience for guests. The person who deserves disciplinary action is the villa supervisor, who ruined my stay, pressured me and created an extremely unpleasant confrontation. If your brand prioritizes profits over guest satisfaction, I will never book any of your island resorts again, nor will I recommend them to anyone I know. I am willing to settle all charges, yet there are undeniable issues on your end. You kept shifting the focus by claiming our packages differed, but Corona beer comes with an extra cost no matter which package guests select. Your staff transferred this charge between room folios without my consent. Furthermore, my villa steward failed to provide clear, accurate information and gave me misleading details about the SPA upgrade fee. When I asked for reasonable compensation due to this misinformation, your supervisor only repeated that I had signed the charge slip and thus must pay in full. This is absolutely not the standard of service a hospitality business should offer. Instead of addressing my doubts and resolving the confusion, your team pressured me and even threatened to call the police to intimidate me throughout our conversation. What’s more, your supervisor never offered any positive or constructive response throughout this incident. He did not show the slightest remorse for all these mishandlings. Only bar manager-putu apologized sincerely, provided compensation, and tried their best to soothe our moods.
