Firstly we visited for the horse racing at Newbury so arrived early Saturday morning. We weee allowed to register our car for the free parking. When we arrived back to the hotel we were given our room key room 117. We were told that it was party night and we’d experience some noise. Party noise wasn’t to bad to be fair by the time we’d watched a bit of tv and nodded off the party had finished. Then the next room think 118 decided to have their own party with all their banging and shouting, slamming doors and then knocking in them again shouting Jill. Wouldn’t be so bad but this went on til 4.30am. So sadly we won’t be visiting again because when we book a hotel room we actually like to sleep. Breakfast was food and a lot of nice options especially the cooked breakfast.

However, I’m very sorry that your night was disrupted by noise from the neighboring room. If you let us know at the time, we will make sure to stop the noise from the other rooms so late at night. I truly regret that this impacted your stay and understand your decision not to return. I arrived at this hotel to a warm welcome from the lady on reception. Once checked in I proceeded to my room. It was absolutely freezing in there, I initially thought the windows must be open, they weren't. So I located the heating controls and attempted to switch it on. It was broken. A portable radiator was in the room but unplugged. This indicated to me the the broken heating must be a known issue. I made my way back down to reception to report the issue & ask if another room was available. The lady on reception confirmed the heating in that room was not working. There were also no other rooms available. When i told her how cold it was in the room she offered another radiator, which I accepted. So on the plus side the receptionist was very helpful. After quite a long drive to get here all I wanted to do was have a shower and relax in my room. Shower was out of the question as it remained too cold in the room. The first couple of hours of my stay were spent in my coat wrapped in the duvet. There was no communication in advance of my stay to inform me of the problem and check if I wanted to continue with my stay. No information on arrival to inform me of the issue. If the room is not fit to inhabited it should not be let out!! Now let's move on the the cleanliness of the room, or rather lack of it. The toilet had not been flushed and contained a huge poo. The bath had soap scum in the bottom. I was assured it had been cleaned but I very much doubt it. Overall my experience here was shocking and one whi I will not be repeating.

My son and I enjoyed a stay in the Mercure Newbury West Grange Hotel this weeked (10-13th Oct) - food was lovely, room was good and the staff were SO friendly and efficient. However, we discover just HOW good they were when I discovered to my horror that I'd booked our check out day incorrectly - I was SURE I'd put Monday 13th Oct but I'd made it Sunday 12th Oct. The lady on reception was amazing - she calmed us down, took us to see other rooms (as our original room was already booked for Sun night) and arranged everthing so smoothly - even upgraded us! I wish I had caught her name but she epitomised our stay - thank you SO much

The most worst night in a hotel of my life ! The volume of music is too high and when you ask for lower the volume, they tell you «  it’s a party this night ! » Incredible for a mercure hotel. If you want calm, choose another hotel.

A very enjoyable stay

A group of 4 of us stayed here for A Fawlty Towers Revival Weekend recently. I'm only going to review the Hotel itself. I would have awarded a 5 , because the overall experience was such exceptional value but for one main avoidable issue; we had an awful old bed-fundamental to a good Hotel experience. We did tell the Manager that this let down his extremely well run Hotel which provided extremely efficient, good natured and hard working staff, and best of all the food-which we really weren't expecting to be so absolutely delicious and beautifully presented for the Hotel's status. For Tea, delicious, lightly crusty, fluffy Scones and warmed in a conventional oven, (we send Scones back when they've been microwaved) a Fabulous Vegetarian Option Dinner (with the floor Show). Just couldn't fault the 3 courses and the clean modern presentation, without being vulgar, wastefully produced and silly like TV's Masterchef-type offerings (I'm a retired classically trained Chef). Breakfast was also really excellent-so much choice in these high food-cost times. There was one issue though, the self service Beverage bar. It was far too small to cater for the numbers of guests staying and we couldn't understand how an automated machine could push out such watery tasteless hot drinks. A thank you to all for your hard work during our memorable stay.
