Very budget

Stayed as a silver member of the hotel's loyalty programme. Expected two welcome drink vouchers as two guests are staying but only one given. Room is very small as expected. Paid $24.50 for buffet breakfast but terrible. Parking as a huge issue in the area.

Well located accommodation

Breakfree on Cashel is a very well-located hotel in the middle of Christchurch. Overall, the service, food and amenities are very good. However, if you are a tall person (over 5ft 10") I would recommend that you check the length of the bed in the room before booking as may find that you don't fit. We didn't sleep very well as my husband had to sleep diagonally across the bed to avoid being cramped, leaving not much room for me :- )

Good value for the price

The rooms in this hotel are typically quite small, but they have all the basics. For the price I consider them to be good value for money. The restaurant serves an adequate breakfast and good quality evening meals. Sadly, there is a noisy bar adjacent to the hotel which is VERY loud on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Request a room on the western side of the hotel.

An acceptable hotel, but overall, not impressive.

I stayed here on 2, different occasions, for a full week, each time, once, in January, and then, again, last week. In January, i got a premium room, on the corner, overlooking H & M. The room was terrific, but it was an executive room. This last time, the hotel was fully booked, so i got a normal room, and it was exceedingly small. Most of the rooms are “inner rooms”, with no windows. For many folk, this could be disturbing. The breakfast offers a wide variety, but i found it tasteless - adequate, but just not tasty. The music during breakfast was also not conducive to relaxation. I get that this is a coffee shop after breakfast, so fine, play the rock music when breakfast time is finished. I love rock music, but not at breakfast. At breakfast, i want to relax. Also, be advised that on most rates, housekeeping is not provided. This is not an issue for me, but for some, it will be a big deal. So you’ve been advised. The location is very good. The central bus station, and a terrific supermarket are both only 3-4 minutes walk. When you exit the hotel, go right, and directly next to H & M is an alleyway, called “the Crossway”. Just 90 seconds in the alley and on your left is Fresh Choice market. Just another 20 meters is the bus station. The #29 bus goes, twice hourly, directly to the airport, for only NZD 4. Christchurch also has a fabulous Botanical garden. Again, exit the hotel to the right. Stay on that street - don’t deviate - go straight for 15 minutes, and you’ll come right to the garden. The hotel charges a surcharge for use of credit card payment. I would probably stay here again, but not enthusiastically.

Good budget room

We got the most budget room and it’s small but has everything you need. Bed is comfy, shower is good and the room is quiet. The location is super central so it’s easy to get anywhere in the city. Check in was quick and easy. Staff were all friendly. Big shout out to the bar staff who were on during happy hour - super friendly, helpful, quick.
