I really did want to fall in love with this hotel. The views are magic, the staff incredible. But for the price, too many small details fell through the cracks. We had to ask housekeeping to service our room every single day while we were here. They would never come when we left our villa for hours in the morning—instead, we had to call, disappear for a few hours, and hope they were done when we returned. Additionally, one day the shampoo pump bottle was missing from our room. We asked for more shampoo, and a plastic squirt bottle was delivered. Fine. When we returned that afternoon, there were three ceramic pump bottles in the shower: bath gel, liquid soap, and conditioner. Which one was the shampoo? I had no idea. In sum, it took almost 24 hours at a 5 star resort to get shampoo in our room. Not a good look, Banyan Tree.

Best staff ever at most magical resort in Mexico!!

Second visit here and it was even more magical than the first. When they say “unlock your senses” they mean it. The smells the sounds the sights there is a unexplainable vibe about this place that really put us at an unmatched level of peace tranquility and ultimate relaxation. The rooms are unbelievable with every villa having a private pool and hot tub and the pools restaurants and beach are all top notch. The real highlight for us was the staff. They take care and treat you like family. We were impressed especially by Adulfo, alijandra, Yessica, Eli, Marcos, Jesus the boat driver, Raul at the swim up bar, Russel, Alfredo, Pedro And raul at the main pool and sands. The 2 girls at the kids club were absolutely wonderful with our 6 year old he loved them I believe it’s Diana and Sandra. Carlos and Juan Carlos at the spa. Axel at the rooftop bar. Roman with security. Head chef Alfonso and Carolina Edna and Brenda the greeting hosts… the list goes on and on. We have never been so impressed with a staff and felt so obligated to leave a review like this mentioning all of them in hopes their supervisors see this because they are all so wonderful at making guests trips so memorable and making us want keep coming back. THANK YOU to all of you there was several I didn’t mention as I forgot or didn’t get all the names but we were beyond impressed with EVERYTHING. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back in 2023! Love you banyan tree mayakoba!!

We loved everything about the hotel. Service was amazing and shoutout to Marcos, Andy & Gena for everything they did for us. The only 2 minor downsides we had were: 1. Ants kept bothering us on the beach where it got so bad at one point we just decided to leave 2. The kosher restaurant was a pain to deal with. They don't have any dairy options. They didn't even have any non-meat options because they were "out of salmon". We wanted to order food to the beach one day. They said the kosher restaurant only opens at 1pm and it takes an hour to deliver it to the beach....frustrating. Almost no modifications to the kosher menu. Also breakfast was $35/person for eggs/cereal/fruit. I believe Ember runs as a seperate service from the rest of Banyan Tree but knowing they have a full scale restaurant 45 minutes away in Cancun, they should be able to step up their game here a little bit.

Dear scenic21466121518, Thank you for your recent stay and as always we truly appreciate your comments and feedback, this helps us to maintain our high standards and ensure we not only meet but continue to exceed all guest expectations. We have taken your feedback on board and this will be used constructively to perfect our unique Banyan Tree Mayakoba Experience. It was a pleasure to host your holiday and hopefully you will provide us an opportunity to host you once again and give us a chance to pamper you. We stayed at Mayakoba in October for 8 nights. We chose a Serenity villa because it had extra space (a separate living room) and it’s own private pool. Overall it was a very nice place to spend a week - the staff and the food make all the difference. Upon arrival we were welcomed by Angel and Regina. They dealt with the formalities as we relaxed in the open air lobby area. Some cool towels and freshly pressed juice were provided. The check in process took less than 10minutes and we were then taken to our villa in a golf buggy by Roger and Regina. On the way they gave us a quick orientation of the layout of Banyan Tree, pointing out the various restaurants, pool etc. Angel, Regina and Roger were all friendly and genuine as they helped us settle in. For lunch on day 1 we walked back to the main building and went to La Copa. It is the main bar for the hotel and serves a range of light snacks. We had the sopes and taco al pastor. Both were fresh and tasty and a perfect size for lunch. A word of caution - when you are offered some spicy sauce and it is described ‘on a scale of 1 to 10 this is 15’ - believe it! A little goes a long way. Our waiter was Axel and he was genuinely welcoming and very efficient. The resort is very nice. Mayakoba is home to a BanyanTree, a Fairmont and an Andaz. There is also a residential community. All of them are built around the El Chameleon championship golf course. All beaches in Mexico are public but the resort has beachfront bars and facilities. There is a nature trail within the resort and you can walk or cycle pretty much anywhere. Golf buggies and water taxis are always there if you get tired. Most mornings we had breakfast in Oriente. You have the choice of a la carte, cold buffet or hot buffet. As with all restaurants in Mayakoba, you did not come here for the pricing, so we took the hot buffet each morning simply because it allowed you free choice of everything. The buffet is extensive. Part of the buffet includes made to order any style eggs. There is also a make to order pancake and crepe stand, smoothie stand and a self service mimosa & Bloody Mary bar. You should try the French Toast - it’s awesome. Eli would be there with a smile to welcome and seat us. If you are lucky enough to have Gabriel as your server - he is just a genuinely nice person. He remembered our names, our preferences and was happy to chat or just to make sure we were comfortable. For the rest of our meals, we either ordered room service or dined at Cello. Both are really good. For room service, try the fresh guacamole and pico de gallo with chips. Ask for extra chips and it will be more than enough for 2 to have all day nibbles. Other times we ordered a quesadilla or a burger - both more than enough for one person. We also indulged in the chocolate volcano desert more than once😎 Cello is just phenomenal. I posted some reviews separately. Go. Just go. Our waiter was Elias and he was both attentive and welcoming while also unobtrusive. We took a day trip into Playa Del Carmen. In our opinion, it is not worth the trip. The main area of Playa (Quinta Avenida/ 5th Avenue) is just 2km of souvenir shops, bars, restaurants etc. you can expect EVERY shop/restaurant/bar to have a special offer just for you. And everyone seems to know you - ‘hey, it’s me, the waiter from your hotel’ (people really fall for that?) We went looking for some nice quality local art. Everyone at the hotel assured us we would find some. There really was nothing worth a second look. There is apparently a Thursday Art Fair at certain times of the year. Overall, BanyanTree Mayakoba is a great place to get away for a break. What makes the difference is the people - Angel, Regina, Roger, Eli, Gabriel, Axel, Elias: you are the reason we will come back! Thank you. Now, some tips for you to consider 1. You can book your transport to/from Cancun via the hotel. They will meet you just outside the rivals area, in amongst the swarm of taxis. It’s probably a bit more expensive than others but it keeps things simple. 2. If you like snacks - bring some. The hotel has a very small snack selection in one of ten gift shops. There is a bakery at El Pueblita but if you want a few bags of chips, some candy etc - perhaps grab it on arrival at Cancun or if you go into Playa Del Carmen. 3. If you select (or are allocated) a villa in the 107 to 112 or 200 to 206 range, you are likely to get ‘entertained’ every evening by Haab. It is one of the resorts ‘theme’ dinners and includes elements of music and dancing. If you are lounging outside your villa, you WILL hear it. It’s not a big deal but if you want peace and quiet you may want another villa. 4. The TVs are set up for ChromeCast but will not work for AppleTV screen mirroring. If you are thinking you will watch some Netflix etc, you certainly can but if you were planning on streaming your local TV back home via VPN - that won’t work 5. Set up a WhatsApp account. The Hotel Concierge will communicate with you. It’s also a good way to coordinate taxis. If you find a local taxi driver you like, most all of them will offer to be ‘on call’ if you WhatsApp them. This saves the stress of having to find a reputable one. These are likely not the most important tips for your trip but it’s all information.
