The property itself is beautiful, but the service and organisation were disappointing. Check in was chaotic with different staff giving different instructions and a long wait. The steak restaurant was also disappointing, with different items listed on the English and Spanish menus and only being told after ordering that we had used the wrong menu. Heavy rain caused our room to flood, and housekeeping took hours to respond to requests, including two occasions where a 9am request was not attended to until after 1pm. The hot tub process was also confusing and took a full day to drain and refill, making it unusable when dirty. We were expecting a luxury and relaxing experience from Sofitel Baru, but unfortunately that was not what we experienced. The repeated issues and lack of organisation made the stay feel more stressful than relaxing, which was particularly disappointing given the expectations of a luxury property.

location 10 hotel conditions 10 employee service and attitude 10 beach : not enough lounge space ( too many guests for the amount of beds) 5/10 food 8/10 the breakfaast buffet got many options but they are not good. buñuelos and empanadas, cold, tasteless , hard restaurants: bad calculations on capability its absurd to miss restaurants as guests for space . also plates sold out . outrageous specially in a hotel that is remote to the city 5/10 gym : again too crowded for its size 3/10 room service: sold out plates like hamburguers and chicken strips-nuggets at 10pm

I really wanted to love this resort because, in many ways, it is beautiful. The beachfront is stunning, the property itself is gorgeous, and the location is hard to beat. Unfortunately, the service has been so inefficient that it has taken away from what should have been a relaxing vacation. The biggest issue is that staying here feels unnecessarily stressful. Every morning becomes a race to find one of the very limited beach chairs. Even arriving around 10:00 a.m. often means they’re already gone. Once you do find a chair, you can end up waiting more than 10 minutes just to receive towels. It may seem like a small thing, but when you’re paying for a beachfront resort, you shouldn’t have to spend your vacation waiting for basic amenities. Dining has been another major disappointment. The resort advertises several wonderful restaurants, but unless you’ve somehow secured reservations well in advance, the restaurants you actually want are often fully booked. Instead, you’re left with whatever happens to have availability rather than the dining experience that influenced your decision to stay here in the first place. It feels misleading to promote these options when many guests are unable to enjoy them. The beach vendors can also become overwhelming. I understand this is part of the local culture, and I don’t mind being approached occasionally. However, the frequency makes it difficult to simply relax. It would be helpful if the hotel worked toward creating a more peaceful experience for guests on the beach. What makes this especially frustrating is that the staff are genuinely kind and courteous. This is not a complaint about individual employees. The problem is the overall operation. The systems are inefficient, and the guest experience suffers because of it. This resort has the potential to be exceptional, but the constant need to compete for beach chairs, wait for basic service, and struggle to access the restaurants that are advertised makes the experience feel far less luxurious than the price suggests. My question after staying here is simple: What exactly am I paying for? The beautiful beach and property are not enough if the overall experience is filled with unnecessary frustration. Until these operational issues are addressed, I would have a hard time recommending this resort despite its incredible location.
