A 5 star hotel in need of tender loving care .

I can’t compare this hotel with its Sister hotels that were owned by the Sarkies brothers in Singapore (Raffles), Penang (E &O) and Yangon (Strand) . I have been to all the 4 hotels found in south east Asia and this was in the worst state. The hotel is also the cheapest stay compared to the other 3 hotels so I did not expect much . Being a 5 star hotel it was surprising that they don’t offer then down service or if you ask for water , they will always deliver 1 bottle Instead of the 2 bottles requested . The light control switch is pretty weird s s you need to move out of the bed to switch off all the lights . The hot water literally flies hot and cold and the bathtub and the toilet needs a good scrub and clean . The soap smelt bad that we resorted to using our own soap. There are layers of dust in the room indicative of the room not being serviced regularly . The food choices at the hotel is rather expensive and very average that we don’t bother to eat breakfast the next day at the hotel . The swimming pool lacked any attendant and essentially it was just an area where you need to take your drinks out from the fridge to consume . Pretty disappointed with the hotel as the hotel looks undercared. The staff are nice but they will need to invest more in Mei rising the facilities .

First and foremost, please accept my sincerest apologies that we failed to meet the standards expected of a five-star property-a standard that we are absolutely committed to upholding, even while undergoing a sensitive restoration process. We are acutely aware of our historical significance and the grand legacy we share with the distinguished Sarkies properties. While we certainly strive to offer a distinct, high-quality experience at a value reflective of our current stage, your report clearly indicates that several core operational services were significantly deficient. Addressing Your Specific Concerns We take your observations very seriously, especially given your valuable perspective as a guest familiar with our esteemed sister hotels. I have personally addressed the following issues with our respective department heads: Housekeeping & Maintenance: Your description of the lack of consistent turndown service, the delivery error of water bottles, the dust layers, and the unacceptable condition of the bathtub and toilet are immediate priorities. We have launched an immediate, detailed audit of our deep-cleaning protocols and room servicing standards to ensure these are rectified and maintained moving forward. Amenities: I am very sorry that the provided soap had an unpleasant scent. This is easily corrected, and we are reviewing our supplier choices to ensure high-quality amenities are always provided. Room Comfort: The issue with the sporadic hot water temperature and the inconvenient light switch placement is duly noted. While certain fixtures are part of the original heritage design, inconsistent utilities are not. Our engineering team is currently investigating the water heater system to ensure stable temperatures across all guest rooms. Dining & Facilities: We understand your disappointment with the value and quality of our food offerings. We are actively refining our menus and kitchen operations to enhance the dining experience. Furthermore, the lack of an attendant at the swimming pool is a safety and service lapse that has been corrected, with proper staffing coverage now in place. Our Dedication to Restoration You are correct that the hotel appears "undercared for." We are in a crucial phase of focused investment to ensure that this historic property not only maintains its charm but also provides the modern comforts expected today. We appreciate your kind words regarding our staff, and we are committed to providing them with the resources and training they need to deliver exceptional service, even as we work on upgrading the physical facilities. We loved every minute of our one-week stay at this oasis in the heart of bustling Surabaya. This historical landmark has such a unique charm — the moment you step inside, you're surrounded by a peaceful, calming atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city. The rooms are incredibly spacious and perfect for unwinding, but what truly sets this place apart is the service. We have never experienced better customer service anywhere in the world. We were made to feel like absolute royalty from start to finish!
