当ホテルは1945年のインドネシア独立運動の際に「オランダ国旗引き裂き事件」があったところで、この事件を機に全国的に独立への機運が高まったとされています。ホテルは当時の写真とともにところどころに名残が見られ、一方で部屋は格調高く整理されており非常に心地よかったです。

インドネシア最大級というより東南アジア最大級のショッピングモールの目の前という便利な立地に、100年以上の歴史を経たコロニアルスタイルの雰囲気のよいホテル。建物は古いが機能的で清掃も行き届いている。また、バーも(インドネシアのホテルのバーにしては)音量がうるさくなく、いかがわしい売春婦も出入りしておらず寛げる環境。観光資源の乏しいジャワ島において、訪問する価値のある数少ない場所。
