We planned for a short getaway just as the COVID pandemic was starting to make the news. We're glad we were able to stay and the hotel did there best to assure our safety was top priority.

On March 22, our flight was cancelled and we went to see if we could stay for two more nights. The night manage (Jaime) told us we could not stay. No exceptions but he would call his manager. He do not. We went back in the morning and said we would even change room to accommodate the hotel. Jaime again said we could not stay, but he would call his manager and get back with us. He did not. Unsure why our staying two more night could have been a problem give the hotel had other guest still staying through the end of the week. Jaime informed us that the Orchid was not taking in new guests or extending stays to existing guests. No exceptions. He also let us know that most of the other hotels were also not taking new guests. I was forced to call around to make other accommodation for us to avoid sleeping in our vehicle. This is the day after we received at email from Accor stating how they were going to support their loyal customers. We have stayed at the Orchid at many occasions and have always enjoyed staying at the Fairmont Orchid, but may have to reconsider next year, well as in the future. I'm unsure that I can feel comfortable in the future that we would also be treated with no regard to our safety! This experience has shown that in a stressful situation such as the Covid-19 epidemic that we be left on our own. I was already stressed by the fact that I was unsure if I would make home due to the airline cancellation, then to be basically homeless did not improve my stress level.

My husband and I stayed here right as the onset of the COVID19 pandemic for a long-planned vacation. I am a long time Marriott person but tried a few nights at The Fairmont upon seeing the discounted rates from last-minute cancellations. I am unsure if I would do the same in the future for anything more than we paid. Pros: -The premises were very lovely -The pool was heated to the PERFECT temp -Free parking!!!! -Friendly and helpful staff -Purell stations readily available Cons: -For the normal price, it felt like it was just...lackluster. Rooms were a little dated. My husband and I kept saying how it must have been an AMAZING hotel a few years ago. - The shower took time for the hot water to heat. Not seconds. Minutes. I have never had that experience at a nice hotel. Ever. - Perhaps we did not see them, but though assurances were given that additional precautions were being made around sanitization efforts given the health crisis, we didn't see a single housekeeping cart with disinfecting wipes or spray. We moved to The Westin after our few nights here and saw staff constantly cleaning and sanitizing. Once again, maybe we just didn't see it, but it was a stark difference.

Lovely hotel, excellent staff and terrific beach location. Unfortunately we could not enjoy any of your restaurants because everything was shutting down during the covid19 crisis. We checked out four days earlier than scheduled. Despite all of this your staff was wonderful and tried to keep us informed daily.
