We are regular visitors to Chicago for work, and always end up in a different hotel, so have broad experience of the local offer. Fairmont is one of the best we have stayed in for comfort and location. Good sized rooms are complemented by excellent (although expensive) mini bar and snacks, and all the usual facilities you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. We had a comfy bed, clean room and were able to access lots of Chicago's highlights within 15 minutes on foot. We didn't try the restaurant or neighbouring gym/spa, so can't comment on those! We'd happily stay again.

For starters, my room wasn't ready when I arrived however, I came earlier that the check-in time. I had a FULL day planned so I went about my day and came back to the hotel that evening. Upon my arrival, I was nervous about what the room would look like because I was too tired to deal with the letdown of a disappointing, sub-par room. When I walked in the room, immediately I felt like a QUEEN. What hit me first was the breathtaking view of the Chicago skyline.... in lights. The nighttime view was the best treat after a long day of work and lots of walking. I did the typical hotel check to make sure there were no issues or leaks or inoperable things. The bathroom blew me away. I wasn't expecting the luxuriousness that awaited me.... The bed was fresh and clean and even the wet bar was something that unlike other rooms, had things that I really wanted and eventually did partake of. The front door had a bellman who was faithfully present every time I went in and out. I felt like I'd known him all my life. He was personable and very compassionate with his genuine checkins to be sure that all was well with me. One night I was so hungry and didn't have the energy to go out. I decided to treat myself and get dressed up, to dine at TORO. The waiter made me feel like we too, were best friends. He brought my food out quickly and it was delicious. The icing on the cake was the live jazz music I had no idea would greet me at the door and be my entertainment for the night. I had a very mature, sultry evening and never even had to leave the hotel. Lastly... on the final night of my stay, I simply ran out of water. I drank what was on the wet bar and just needed more water. I went down to Toro and they remembered me from dining there the previous night. I begged for a complimentary cup of water with lemon and not only was my request granted, it was granted with such care and concern that once again, I felt seen - I felt appreciated and I felt served as a customer. The customer service here in this entire hotel exceeded my every expectation and I'm SO grateful I picked this hotel instead of all the other options in the area. If I'm ever in Chicago again, there's no other place I'd prefer to stay.

I requested daily housekeeping and Ramona was excellent with her cleaning. I loved that there was a tea kettle and multiple tea options in the room, as I love tea and most hotels just provide coffee. This was nice to see. The bed was comfortable, room was spacious, and the bathroom was huge! I loved the separate tub and showers. Some constructive feedback - the carpets were dirty and I could see visible hair on the floor. Hair that was not my color so I know it was a previous guests' hair, which felt very unsanitary. Also, we did not receive a warm welcome from the front desk at all. Dakota, who did our check in, was very unfriendly and not pleasant to work with when an issue came up with our initial reservation. We never received a smile from her and she had quite an attitude during the whole check in process. It started our trip on a very sour note. Lastly, the restaurant struggled a lot with the $15 daily credit from the hotel. Multiple servers were confused on how to apply the credit and did not know what we were talking about. The urban experience fee overall felt mostly like a scam as it costs $25 per day and we really didn't get much benefit out of it. Consider making the urban experience fee optional. Microwaves and mini fridges for the room have to be requested, and the hotel had run out, so there was literally no way to store my food or heat it up. At a minimum, the hotel should at least have a microwave in the lobby for guests to use. This was a huge disappointment. Remove the useless overpriced mini bar filled with alcohol and replace it with a fridge and microwave in the room that guests can actually use.

Overall, the location is great. I loved Toro and the staff was pretty nice. It was during the NSBE convention so check in was slow but they did their best. The only issue I really had was they charged me for an extra night. I was able to speak to accounts payable and get that resolved.

Emailed the hotel about check in time and bed request prior to stay, no one got back with me, and had to call the day of. Arrived to a lengthy check in line from which hotel staff allowed airline pilots to jump the line (the agent who checked me in did not apologize but the one who checked in another member of my party did). Arrive to a room that smelled badly of smoke. Went to front desk to try to change rooms and was told "nothing i can do we are sold out" not so much as an apology. After letting her know that i have bad allergies and will not be able to handle four nights of this she told me she would set up a room move and issued a $100 credit. The sheets in the room were sub par for Fairmont, multiple holes in them. Also, I am not sure all of our credit for daily fee were applied but wasn't heading to the front desk again. Overall, lack of hospitality and customer service from them, only saw one agent smile, seem happy to help the entire time I was there (she checked in Dr. Gary Hosey). Other small things like no red bull in the morning because "the night bartenders don't restock". On a super positive note your bellstaff were AMAZING. 5 star service every time we came in and out, with a smile. And I love Fairmont properties and properties I book through Delta Stays - just parts of this stay that I do not typically encounter at a hotel of this level.

Dear HJC, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay. I apologize for the inconveniences you faced, particularly regarding the check-in process and room quality. I regret that your bed preference wasn\'t recognized and that delays occurred during check-in. This does not reflect our usual standards of service, and I will address it with our team. I\'m also sorry to hear about the smoke odor and linen quality in your room. Thank you for bringing this to my attention; I’ll ensure our housekeeping team is informed. However, I\'m glad to hear our bell staff provided exceptional service. Your loyalty to Fairmont properties is appreciated, and your feedback is invaluable for improving our operations. We hope to have the opportunity to provide a more seamless experience in the future. If you’d like to discuss your experience further or require assistance, please reach out to me directly. Best regards, Tim Muhsen Director of Guest Experience.
