Golden stay with champagne service on our 50th

Our wedding reception was in the ballroom 50 years ago and we celebrated dinner here most every Dec 18th since; so our 50th Anniversary we stayed overnight and given an upgrade to a penthouse room. The included lounge was made special in champagne service with Neha, Cecilia and Sammy, thank you, we had a wonderful stay.

Pleasant staff. Sticker shock regrading the cost of meals in this hotel and other hotels nearby. $40 for a 2 egg omelet with toast and coffee! To say nothing of the $16 orange juice and the bar snacks in the room.

I called a week before to make sure that I would get a quiet room. I called a week before several times to make sure I would get what i was looking for, I called when my flight was late to make sure i would get a suitable room. When I arrived I was told that a suitable room was not available. FYI a room that is away from the elevator, not facing a busy street or train tracks, and no adjoining room. I was told the hotel was full. I even told the person at check in that i would be happy to pay for a gold floor room-I did not get an answer if anything was available. After over an hour I was finally offered a suitable room but not before i was offered a room with two double beds?? To add to this I asked why this always happens, weather its the Banff Springs, Chateau Laurier, or Empress, I was told by one of the Palliser's managers that I did not have preferences populated on my profile. Further to this I was asked how the hotel could make things better, i suggested access to the gold floor lounge, I was told no, instead i was given a credit to food and beverage. I thought after that the 1st night room should have been comp'd. Further to this i must have received 6 text messages as well as at least 3 calls from staff asking how the stay was. All in all not a great experience.

Decent hotel, sometimes took a while to get our vehicle from the valet. The shower head was fixed and a little high which didn’t provide much water pressure for shorter people. Bathroom and room were on the smaller side. Pillows were a little flatter than I would like. TV was not a smart tv. Hotel staff were very good and friendly. Lobby is fancy looking and nicely decorated for Christmas. Room was clean and quiet.
