The room was very clean and organized, and the hotel itself was amazing. I did find it odd how unclear things were though. I was not clear on when the restaurant closed for dining, and there was no mention of breakfast the following morning. We left the hotel to get coffee at a local coffee shop which was great, but when we returned we poked around and noticed the restaurant had a coffee bar etc.

I arrived at the hotel which is located on a main road(non issued) with two animals in carriers. Typically at the fairmont I receive impeccable service but on this occasion I had to leave my car on the steer, walk into the hotel, past the reception desk and stand in the middle of the lobby to find any help. This was my first experience of staying at this fairmont. Then to top it off I had to find my own trolly and push my own luggage to my room. Typically I wouldn’t have minded but I had two animals and luggage! This definitely did not feel like a luxury hotel. The lady who checked me in was cold and unhelpful! The room was satisfactory and the checkout lady was nice. Again it felt like hard work to take all my luggage and animals out of the hooted as there was no help! I had to go get the trolley from the lobby and take it upstairs, go the car park, back to the reception and staff watched me. The process of arriving and leaving really let down our stay! Booking process was fantastic. Very hrelpful

I sent a detailed email to the general info email at the Palliser as well as the general manager and have had no response. Long dark hair in bathtub. Hair on our bed sheets. Broken lamp that didn’t work. Coffee machine (nespresso) was leaking for every use. Poor phone connection and we were unable to get through to concierge for the first hour. Very very disappointing in room dining food. The food was below average. I would have been unhappy with it at a pub. We were expecting it to be phenomenal and the limited menu should have been our first warning sign. The room temperature was too warm and even opening up the windows and turning it as low as we could didn’t cool it down enough to have a comfortable sleep. It stayed between 24 and 27 degrees. The most disappointing part so far is the silence following two emails, and having no follow up. We are very against leaving publicly viewed negative reviews before contacting the hotel, but we may in light of the poor service.

I have also shared your email with Chef and the kitchen about your dining experience. Our house made Hawthorn Sourdough is amazing, but this should have been the start of a great meal. I spoke with Hawthorn Manager and Chef and all our sincere apologies about the quality of your meal. We would be pleased to have you back one evening for some cocktails and our famous Cinnamon Crepe Cake. Using the messaging service is new and intended to increase opportunities for our guests to stay in touch during their time here. Nevertheless, the phones in the room always need to be operational, especially if this is your preferred method of communication. I understand during these times having an employee inside the room may feel uncomfortable, but we do have rigorous standards and policies protecting the health of our guests and employees. Our team is very empowered and engaged, and would have loved the opportunity to turn around your experience while you were still on property. Please do keep my email address and when you are returning I will ensure your room is comfortable, and set up to welcome you back. We were staying to celebrate my mother’s 88th birthday celebration (and my Daughter’s 33, her partner and my brother and sister-in-law’s belated January birthdays). My nephew called in from Switzerland and arranged cake, roses, Prosecco, cards, etc- the the hotel team executed flawlessly!!! We were so surprised as it was outstanding!!!! We loved our room and the teams. We ordered in a meal for the Saturday (it was quite nice - please have someone call me on this 14… - from Accor or a GM).

Meh experience.

Nice stay, comfortable bed - was expecting a wow factor staying at a Fairmont hotel and that wasn't there. Parking was outrageous...

Not so great of a stay

Hey, it was my first time here for my birthday and I wanted a luxurious experience which I absolutely did not get. On arrival the concierge Mayuresh was very welcoming and amazing and heard it was my birthday so gave me complimentary card for dessert during dinner. The room was not that clean neither were the robes (in my opinion for a luxurious hotel standard). The heater seemed to have been broken as I was freezing and also caught a cold that night. Thanks to Su, she brought me tea to keep warm but again, this is meant to be a luxurious hotel so the technician had to bring me space heater. Dinner at Hawthorne was awesome and Steph was a great server and very patient. While I was checking out, there was no buss boy to grab my bags from the room, a lady at the front desk was willing to help but I felt bad with her being in heels and all. Also, a homeless man who was half naked ran through the lobby up the stairs and the ladies at the front desk in their heels had to run after him and asked the maintenance men around the lobby for help to drive him out. No security? That was not safe for the guest and also the staff as anything could have happened. Overall, the staff was amazing but the services and ambience were way below my expectation for luxury, so I was very disappointed.

Misleading costs and poor amenities

This trip was our first as a family in over a year due to Covid. We booked two nights at the hotel, since one night was $185 and there was a promotion that said buy one night, get the other night for free. Upon arrival, we learned that instead of $200 for the two nights, the price was actually $400. The person at the desk admitted that the promotion was misleading and that room rates were essentially inflated arbitrarily upon choosing this promotion, but there was nothing that they could do as management would not authorize a change in the fee. The additional $200 significantly reduced our ability to partake in other activities within the city, which was very frustrating. Since we arrived late at night with a 1 year old, moving to a different hotel was not really an option. We ordered dinner from the Hawthorne on the first evening. The food was cold and not what we’ve come to expect from Fairmont restaurants. When I asked about parking, we were directed to the lot attached to the hotel. Our parking rates were doubled for reasons that are unclear, and we ended up paying for 4 days despite only staying in the facility for 2. When I asked the hotel about this, they said they had nothing to do with the facility and that I had to talk to the company that ran the lot. Despite calling, this led nowhere and our parking fees were ultimately over $110 by the time we left. Our room was missing cream for the coffee machine, and the coffee provided tasted very old and stale. We have always looked forward to staying at Fairmont facilities and we view the hotels as an essential part of our travel experiences. After this last visit, our opinion of Fairmont is significantly diminished and we will avoid their properties in the future.

Poor Valentine's Day Experience

Booking was a positive experience as Samuel was very helpful in selecting the right suite for a family of 4. We purchased the Valentine's day package which included fondue, canapes, charcuterie, etc., which certainly fell short. We were advised to let the hotel know 3 hours prior to when we would like the food delivered to our room. I called the hotel the morning of our check in to advise what time we wanted the fondue, charcuteries, canapes, etc. I spoke with staff and arranged for a 6:30 pm delivery. When we arrived at the room at our check in of approx. 1:30 - 2:00 pm the food was already sitting in the room. I spoke with Tatiana to have the food removed and "fresh" delivered at the arranged time of 6:30 pm. I explicitly stated I did not want this food brought back to the kitchen then redelivered at a later time. Unfortunately that is what happened - the same food that was out at 1 pm in our room came back at 6:30 pm. Fondue was cold. Canapes and charcuterie looked tousled and unappealing and frankly inedible. Certainly not a Fairmont level of experience. It was our first stay at the Palliser and I do not plan to come back after this experience, although we have enjoyed the experience at other properties, which is why I can certainly benchmark this as a poor quality.

The stay was great but do not recommend paying for the valet parking as it was 45$ a night and when I called to have my car brought up I waited for over 10 mins on the line ringing to call the offsite number and get an answer right away, was told my car was already up there. The valet was inside my keys were outside and my car had been out there not running for so long it was freezing and my keys had froze and cause the battery to die in the key fob I had the alarm go off in the car trying to enter it with the key no one came over to help. Moral of the story I paid 45$ for valet parking to have dead keys from the Cold and a freezing car I have had much better service else where

I really enjoyed my stay. Room was clean and looks exactly like it does in pictures online. I only had an issue with cable in the room but it was resolved after a few hours. I just wish the suite I got had a better view.
