This is unusual as normally we have no issues, but we were not offered our members drinks at check in. There was a musty smell in the room coming from the bedroom, and we had to get some help from the staff to stop the toilet from continually running. Not the usual standard from Accor.

Usually a good place to stay on short visit to Christchurch but during the last stay in April'24 I was notified of a planned hot water outage at the time of check-in for the following day for three hours with advise to be out of the hotel during that time!. Though it was a planned outage it was not informed prior to check-in or at the time of booking so it was quite a surprise. The surprise turned to a shock when not only hot water but all the water supply was stopped at 11 AM and did not come back till after 4 PM, there was no drinking water and the toilet was unusable and one would have to go to the airport terminal during this time for using toilet. There was no water at all in not only the rooms of the hotel but all over the hotel. There was no update that the hot water outage has been turned into outage of all the water with the hotel being waterless for over 5 hours during the day. When the water would be back was not informed and I had to call multiple times and each time was assured it will come in 15 minutes. The hotel has an information, messaging system in their TV monitors but communication was a total failure. It looks like there was some major maintenance work which was planned much earlier and the effect on guests staying in the hotel was completely disregarded. I am not sure who and how this was approved and at the same time the management allowed the hotel to continue with hosting the guests for that day. By any standard if water was to be stopped completely for over five hours that day should have been taken out of booking calendar and not sold as such. Without water the hotel was simply not fit for habitation. This should be enquired by the hotel management and guests should have been contacted personally for exposing them for such a bad experience. Also advising at check-in that the guests should vacate the hotel for three hours to allow for hotel maintenance (which later turned into a nightmare with no water for over five hours) is taking the guests for granted too much. If there was going to be a water outage then this information should have been made available at the time of booking rather than shocking guests at the time of the check-in. Overall, the complete water outage has made this my worst hotel experience and overshadowed this whole trip. By no imagination hotels in NZ or anywhere in the world go waterless while they are in active operation of hosting guests. This is a complete fail for the Novotel -Christchurch Airport. There are lot of good hotels in Christchurch and I had booked this one for love of watching aeroplanes rather than vacate hotel during the day so that it could do renovation of its water supply while i was still paying for using the booked stay. Other minor improvements i could think of is despite being an Accor Gold member I was not upgraded at check-in , no early check-in or late check out was offered (not that I needed it or asked for it). Welcome amenities are much better at other Novotels and Pullmans. Complementary bottled water does come with Accor gold membership and executive room but had to ring for it multiple times even when the hotel water supply was shut down and there was not even tap water to drink. This just highlights how important are basic facilities like running water and usable toilet in any hotel and it should not be taken for granted. If there is no water for over five hours during the day it will eclipse all the other good things that the hotel has to offer. Views are great, has good gym, restaurant and bar facilities are good. Staff do well except the way the water crisis was handled.
