Good hotel but managed to ruin my stay.

The room is small but good enough. Sparkling clean & renovated (nearly new). Linen clean & fresh. Comfortable bed. Only bath towels and 1 hand towel was provided but up on request we got bath mat. Housekeeping is top notch for a budget hotel. No minibar fridge, tea coffee making facilities, hair dryer, cups/glasses etc. it’s a basic room. Hair dryer, cups are available on request. Room does not have a phone so for any requests you need to go to reception. The hotel is right opposite to Lavapies metro station. Windows are almost sound proof so once closed you will hardly hear any outside noise. Marta at reception is amazing at customer service. But… During our second night the aircon stopped working so I raised this with reception. They tried to fix it but could not. Staff offered me to move room but then informed me that the whole building did not have aircon. Could not sleep well as there was no aircon and couldn’t open the window as the hotel is in the noisy area. Next day, When I returned to the hotel in the afternoon, the aircon was fixed but the temperature was set to 22* and locked. Again I raised this with reception and they said they can’t change it due to some environmental policy (but on my day 1 I could Adjust the temperature the way I wanted ?). Plus their own poster about being environmental friendly says to keep the temperature at 19*. I asked them and explained why I needed around 19* but they refused. This made me think if the aircon was intact broken during previous night or staff had simply turned it off. Felt bit cheated as after paying for the room hotel had not offered me 100% of the service. I understand they want to be environment friendly but it should be for public areas not for rooms where guests should decide what temperature to set. I did raise this with Agoda (booking agent) and they did offer me some compensation but my 3 night sleep was still ruined. Classic example of how a potential 5 star review turned into 3 star.

Excellent low-cost hotel in convenient location - Definitely recommend

Location: The location is excellent. Centrally located, two minutes walking from Lavapies subway station, about fifteen minutes from the train station. Neighborhood: Very convenient. There is a Carrefour next door, a fresh fruit store across the street and there are several ethnic restaurants minutes walking from the hotel. Unfortunately, it does tend to get loud at night, so request a room on the backside of the building. Rooms: The rooms are small and simple. The beds are comfy but very narrow and kind of short. There is soap. Other amenities are available downstairs. The shower worked well and was very clean, but the doors were transparent AND there was a mirror next to the shower as well as directly opposite of it. So, your roommates will have a full view of you while taking a shower. There were a couple of shelves and two hooks, plus several hangers, to hang your clothes or jacket up on. The outlets were all European, so make sure you bring an adaptor. Breakfast: Breakfast is fresh and yummy. It is the exact same every day. There are freshly baked breads, cereals, meats, cheese, fruit, juices, coffee, tea, yogurt, eggs, etc. Simple but very nice. Recommendations for the hotel: Add a lock and doorknob to the inside of the toilets. The showers intermittently get freezing and scalding hot. Replace oranges and kiwis with fruits that are easier to peel, like mandarins or bananas. Allow guests free access to tea and coffee throughout the day, free of charge.

Great budget hotel. I would definitely stay here again. My room was very clean and quiet. The breakfast was good, including jamon, fresh sheep cheese, eggs, breads, yogurt and cereal. A friendly staff and everyone spoke English. Recommended!

Its clean, safe and centrally located. That's the good parts. The room itself is really not big enough for 2. Zero shelf space. Be prepared to put your stuff on the floor. The "night stand" is big enough to hold your phone. No carpets or rugs. No light when you first come into the room. Not even close to enough light over the sink to shave or apply makeup. The toilet is barely big enough to sit down and stand up in. There is no lock on toilet door and not even a handle to close toilet door from inside. My wife and I were given 1 towel each. Sorry. For over $100 they can do better and should.

There are a lot of cheapish hotels and hostels in the center of Madrid. Booking one of them that isnt branded usually results in a bit of a crapshoot. The Ibis budget at Lavapies is pretty good when compared to the cheaper options. It isnt too much more expensive and I think the extra expense is worth it. Little things like 24 hour reliable front desk service, daily cleaning and a well equipped bathroom really make a big difference. There is also a 24 hour supermarket right next to the place, which is a convience that isnt typical in Europe. When I was staying at the hotel there was a nieghborhood street party happening which made for a noisy and crowded square, but I hardly heard anything once inside the hotel. The only thing I can warn about when booking this or any Ibis hotel is that their website's booking system is terrible. When you book your room and enter your card information, their platform produces a reciept that says the room has been paid for in full at the time of booking. This is not true; you'll be charged when you arrive to check in. Because of this, I'll only ever book an Ibis hotel through Agoda or Expedia or whatever. Its easier and less hastle than using the Ibis' own website.
