Staff could do with work on trans and non binary people and their pronouns

Stayed over for UK Pride which was in Doncaster this year and have spotted this large hotel many times on other business stays as a volunteer for a national charity whilst visiting the city of Doncaster . Parts of the hotel are well used and run down but enjoyed room 213 bar the television where you could not turn off the blind persons audio description on the smart television set . Staff especially the reception staff looked after me well as they work excessively long hours bar one thing pronouns which need work on and education as they kept using male pronouns which is inappropriate to a non binary trans person like myself . Also being an Accor Silver rewards member they could not register my rewards or get their computer system to acknowledge my account . On the Friday I arrived the food I ordered was excellent consisting of nachos, Thai vegetarian curry and a Black Forest pudding which was welcome after a long journey from Northumbria. I slept well after supper from Friday night to 11 am Saturday morning and I joined the pride parade As I attended UK pride in Doncaster they stored my suitcase and kept it safely until I got my train to Beverley in the evening. A few tweaks and this good hotel could be excellent. As a regular traveller doing volunteer work I use Accor brand hotels regularly but as mentioned earlier in this review some of the reception staff at this Doncaster Mercure hotel could do with a wee bit extra training on how to address and treat non binary and transgender people. So I’d rate my experience 6 out of 10 for my stay and could do with some improvement

Overnight stay; older building but rooms recently modernised and refurbished - nice and clean, inc bathroom. Decent choice for breakfast and hotel right in centre of the city with shops, bars, etc right on your doorstep. Staff helpful and friendly

Avoid if staying for work - kept awake all night - run down

Generally run down hotel a long walk through the town from the car park - hotel foyer smells musty - the bedroom was really small, , cups grubby, no double glazing so kept awake by noise of local bars on a Tuesday night Avoid - can’t believe it’s a Mercure!

Can't fault it, Staff great as always. Lucy was on reception at check-in along with another staff member whose name I didn't catch. Because of traffic on the A1, we arrived later than planned, and we couldn't be bothered to go out. So, we decided to just chill in our room for the night. Later in the evening, we meet Jamie and Lewis the Night staff. Having read the reviews, we were slightly anxious about the noise issue but barely heard anything all night. The room was large and clean, and the bathroom was also spotless. Down side the Zip and link bed started pulling apart in the night but easily sorted. We didn't eat in the hotel, so we can't comment on that side. Check out was painless. Hannah and Claire were pleasant and friendly. Even the parking warden, as I loaded our luggage into the car in the loading bay at the front of the hotel, was polite. I'm sure we'll return at some point.

Very pleasantly ‘chic’ appointed reception. Staff were very attentive and pleasant with a family feeling. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Very large room. Slept well. Bathroom clean and modern. Overall I’d say for a 3* offering this place at least hit the mark. Impressed overall.
