I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Novotel New Plymouth. The hotel is advertised as Māori-owned and operated, and what impressed me most was the subtle, soulful, and artful way this is reflected throughout the property. Rather than feeling themed or contrived, there is a sense of deep connection to place in the colours, planting, and design choices. One feature that particularly stood out to me was a sitting area partially enclosed in a curved area by hanging chain partitions. It sounds unusual written down, but it worked remarkably well. The space remained connected to the life and energy of the lobby, yet somehow felt private and sheltered at the same time. I found myself appreciating the ingenuity of that design each time I passed through. The hotel makes generous use of plants and organic tones that feel very much at home in Taranaki. The overall atmosphere is calm and welcoming without feeling contrived. My room was beautiful and comfortable, with thoughtful details throughout. I especially liked the glass partition between the bedroom and sitting area, which created a sense of openness while still defining the spaces. The kitchenette was also very well equipped, making my longer stay easy. The restaurant deserves its reputation. I ordered the Taranaki beef one evening and it was excellent, prepared just to my request, and showcased the unique local produce. After long and gruelling work days, the sauna was lovely. The staff were consistently excellent. Assistance was consistently available when needed, but interactions never felt forced or overly formal. There was a natural ease to the service that contributed greatly to the overall experience. My only suggestion would be to allow parking charges to be paid using Accor points. It is hardly a complaint, more a small gesture that I suspect loyal guests would appreciate. I left with the impression that the hotel knows exactly what it is and wants to be. It feels connected to Taranaki without making a show of it, offers a rare balance of privacy and connection, and I will happily stay there again.

We was a little saddened by not having the full English Breakfast all the days but putting that aside it’s a lovely hotel to stay in and we really enjoyed our stay
