Well located but a major skimping issue

I've just spent 3 nights at this Ibis Styles. It is located in the middle of town and handy for the old town. The hotel is a bit dated but everything works such as the Wifi, shower, and standard bed for an Ibis. The breakfast was also adequate for a hotel of this grade. As other reviewers have written, our room smelled a bit of sewage. Being Accor Live Limitless members means that we each get one free drink at Accor (Ibis) hotels. When we went to redeem our voucher we were told that we were only entitled to one drink and not one for each of us. When we explained that this is not how it works at all other Ibis hotels I asked her to check again, and she said 'the management here has chosen to opt out of two free drinks'. The relevance for you, dear reader, is just how else is this hotel cutting corners in ways you will not know until you arrive? Good luck!

Had a great time despite the accident at the airport that made me tour France to arrive here. The staff accommodated my needs, and the room was just what I needed. Great buffet breakfast. The location is between (now under construction) Place de la Comédie (2 min by foot) and the Polygone center (2 min by foot with some steps), the train station or Gare, accessible by 7 min by foot to the right of the hotel. A tram stop is at the end of the street (climbing some steps). Would suggest some bins in corridor, next to the elevator, one more in the room, and the lack of a telephone makes it impossible to reach the reception in case of a guest disturbing you at night, when you are trying to sleep (noise, cigarette smoke).

Fine, only a one night stay, but all met brand standards ....nice team, comfortable n quiet room....slightly weird deco...purple flooring took a bit of getting used to. Bathroom fittings may need some mmaintenance...shower fittings were loose, but fairly minor.

The hotel is poorly managed as is evident by the shabby rooms, sewer like smell in the hallways and troughs in the mattresses. Plus, when we checked in the clerk informed us that we had overpaid by using Booking.com instead of their website. Not a good way to start off the stay. Our room faced the street and you could hear the local bars and bottles being broken later at night and then the garbage pickup early in the morning. Also, the parking garage is so narrow that it takes nerves of steel to navigate the rental car in and out. Other than the fact that it is so centrally located, don’t bother.

Location : Just off the Place de la Comedie, this is as central as it gets for Montpellier. We arrived by rental car, and after returning it at the Hertz Mediteranee Airport, we took the bus to Place de l’Europe and tram to Comedie – all very straightforward. We left by TGV to Paris, and the Gare St Roch was a 5-7 minute walk away. Rooms : Comfortable and spacious. Very quiet at night. The shower area opens out to the room, which leads to some spillage. Service : Quick and efficient check in. Dropped keys on checkout (it was very early). Staff are friendly and helpful. On Sunday, we had a WC flush issue, and the lady immediately offered to change rooms as plumbing staff were unavailable (thankfully the problem resolved itself, so it wasn’t necessary). Breakfast : We ate only one of the mornings due to a very early checkout our last day, the spread was reasonable. Overall, a good choice for Montpellier. Our room tariff was slightly elevated, perhaps because it happened to be a busy weekend.
